Pepper foam will stop anyone dead in their tracks. But you have to shoot them in the eyes with it. The advertised range of this product is about 10 feet. In practice runs I have found 5 feet is a more practical estimate. That's pretty close range if you're dealing with an angry drunk, etc.

Also, this large can works in a vehicle, but is cumbersome for personal carry.

I'm not going to take this out of my glove box, but for walking around I would recommend a smaller can of pepper gel, which has a legitimate 15 foot range.
