A surprisingly decent first person shooter, it's Halo only much better...,

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this game, I thought this game would have something to do with Star Wars (since there was a game called Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and I thought this was it), so I was a little disappointed to find out that this didn't have anything to do with Star Wars. Still, I tried it out, and much to my surprise, I warmed up to it and it turned out to be a lot of fun.
Pros: * Levels are HUGE! The engine also deals with levels in one go, so you have minimal loading times when moving from place to place within the level. * Graphics are actually pretty good. Models are done well and texture work is great. * Like I said, it reminds me a lot of Halo, the HUD display is similar as is the font and color on the HUD, and like Halo, Mace is fitted with a shield that depletes and recharges, and if you're hit when the shield is down, that is when you actually lose health. * The AI is actually pretty good. * Weapons are plentiful, and they are powerful, especially the chaingun that you carry with you almost throughout the whole game. * Saving the best for last, my favorite aspect of this game is the space sections. You've got a powerful ship and you have space dogfights in between missions, and you fly to your destination in each level, so you can dock and leave at your pleasure. What's more, the landing and taking off at locations is seamless, meaning there's no loading in between using the ship or playing on foot. Cons: * No multiplayer. After experiencing the weapon's sheer power and the space dogfights, I would have LOVED to have those dogfights with friends of mine. The lack of multiplayer is a big bummer, at least for me. Co-Op in this game would have been awesome. * Levels, while huge, can become repetitive at times, in that you feel like you walk into a new room and feel like it's exactly the same room that you just left, although I will admit it's not as awfully repetitive as in Halo (anyone remember the Library level? It felt like FOREVER!). * The story is pretty weak, and the voice acting is pretty weak too, especially from Mace Griffin, thoroughly unconvincing. It's funny, since they made a big deal on the cover about Henry Rollins providing Mace's voice, and while I'd never heard of the guy before, he didn't do a great job. I feel like I've not done the game justice. Overall, it is a great game, and I would play it at least once more (finished it a couple weeks ago), and I'd recommend this game for the space dogfight sections alone. It's fun, don't get me wrong, just expect a lot of exploring and a lot of shooting. While that's never a bad thing, there must be a limit of how far you have to walk to accomplish your objectives... :)

This game has problems on Windows XP SP2 with DirectX 9.0c. Neither Vivendi Universal Games or MumboJumbo will support this product.

For a 2004 game, this game has pretty decent graphics, but is not particularly innovative even for its time. However, it runs smoothly (I played it on Vista x64) and is quite error free. Also, no patches are required. I rarely play multiplayer on any game, so I didn't miss it on this one.
As someone else mentioned, it's a Halo knock-off, but with no drivable vehicles and it takes place largely in space. Weapons are typical: something that resembles a cattle prod, a pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, assault rifle with grenade launcher, a pulse machine gun, rocket launcher, two types of hand grenades, a sonic shock cannon, and some kind of electrical stun weapon. You have a regenerating shield armor and a health level that depletes when you get hit after your armor has been overcome. Health kits and ammo are discovered by breaking crates. There are quite a few different types of enemies, from bugs to thugs. There are robots and turrets and some of the latter can be commandeered. There are some environmental challenges like having to jump from place to place without falling. I don't really care that much about story line or voice acting unless it's really bad or very good. This game was so-so on both. About 20% of the game consists of spaceship dog fighting. I hated that part, mostly because I was no good at it. Other people apparently like it. Maybe it would have been better using console style controllers. I got better toward the end, but there was one mission (Rescue Krugo) that was a real challenge and I had to play the end space segment it over and over for a couple days. Aside from the spaceship dog-fights, the worst part of this game was the checkpoint save system which almost made me lower my rating of this game to three stars. There are no manual or quick saves in this game. If you get killed, it will start over at the last checkpoint. Sometimes checkpoints happen pretty regularly, but other times you have to play a long time before you get to one. This may be the worst game I've seen in terms of the length of time between some checkpoints. Finally, this has to be the longest linear shooter I've ever played. I played this game pretty regularly for a month. There are twelve missions and each is quite long. I think this game is worth about 20-40 hours of game play depending on your skill. I was ready for it to be over, but it was fun right up to the end. I paid $6 for this game with free shipping and it was a bargain. If you like futuristic Halo style FPS games, I highly recommend this. While not state of the art graphics (even for its time), it was still enjoyable and without many of the anomalies that you see in earlier games.
