BEST magazine for Mac users,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Macformat Monthly Paper Comes With Cd-Rom (Magazine)
I've been a Mac user since 1987 and have read or seen almost every Mac related magazine out there. My former favorite was MacUser Magazine. Unfortunately, it was long ago swallowed up by MacWorld. I used to enjoy the old MacAddict mag, but it has lost some of its bite (yes, it was occasionally childish as well, but that was a big part of its charm for me) since becomming MacLife.
I ran into MacFormat while browsing the computer mags at some book store and bought it on a whim based on some of the included programs on the DVD it came with. A bit pricey at over $15, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm very glad I did. The writing is first rate, the tutorials are must reads that while written for a novice will give you tips and tricks that you might not have thought of yourself. The included DVD almost always has software I can't help installing and I have purchased a few of the demo apps just based on their recommendations. Because the magazine is based out of the UK, very few of the ads will mean much to US readers, but you can certainly find retailers for hardware elsewhere. Magazines like Macworld and MacLife are certainly cheaper, but as with many things in life, you get what you pay for. I get more out of MacFormat each month than either of the others and I highly recommend it for Mac users wanting to get more in depth information. I took one star away for the price and not having a US version.

Great Magazine,

I read both MacFormat and iCreate. I find that MacFormat is geared more towards intermediate and advanced users whereas iCreate is geared towards beginners and intermediate users. Excellent articles with excellent instruction.

MacFormat a Great Mac magazine,

I spent 5 months in Thailand with my MacBook Pro and an electronic version of MacWorld and came across MacFormat for the first time. It is by far the best magazine with insightful and useful articles, tips, reviews and other information that CAN BE USED by most Mac users. I waited anxiously for each issue to hit the stand and because I could not afford the weight of bringing home all the older copies of MacFormat I went thru each issue and cut out the pages I wanted to bring home to the states. For USA residents this is not a cheap subscription but the magazine is excellent and I feel worth the money. I feel the same about iCreate and consider them both my favorite magazines by far. MacWorld is a really good magazine for general information and some useful tips, but MacFormat by far has the biggest bank for the buck when it comes to aritcles and tips that can be used. My vote is iCreate and MacFormat, but in both cases expect to pay for the quality. LOL, part of the price for being a Mac fanatic.
