"I disagree. Yes there is a tiny bit of pixelation but, honestly, I did not notice it until I read the review by A. Z. and went and looked for it. I had not noticed it before and I have had the tablet 3 weeks.
A. Z. makes a few comparisons (direct and implied) to iPad in his review but he skips over one important comparison, price. This tablet lists for $169. I have seen it as low as sub $100 (door opener special.) The iPad starts at $499. So the logical question to ask is, "Is the iPad five (5) time better?" Any, even those with no experience using tablets, can answer that question. Heck NO, the iPad is not 5 times better. Twice as good maybe, more like 1 1/2 times, as good would be an appropriate comparison"
I'll add to those sentiments here.
I first became familiar with this family of tablets when a friend bought the 7" model. I was very impressed with the quality versus price (bang for the buck.) When the 9.7 inch model was introduced, I purchased one within days of it becoming available. I was pleasantly surprised that the "big brother" model had even higher quality.
I have had the tablet for 3 weeks and have found nothing to be dissatisfied with. I would but another, I think it is such a GREAT deal, except I don't know what I would use two tablets for.
Be forewarned. The tablet DOES NOT come with Google Play Store which every Android tablet really needs. However, one is able to very easily root this tablet (no strange Linux commands, just plug it into your PC USB port and run a rooting program.) SEE - XDA-Developers website, search for "Root Trio Stealth Pro 9.7". Adding Google's Play Store is a simple process after it is rooted. The same XDA-Developers post cover that process also.
Screen is bright and vivid. Is it HD and top-of-the-line? No, but again we aren't talking about a $300,$400,or $500 tablet here. Resolution is not the greatest but certainly more than acceptable for the price point. I wouldn't call it "pixelated" since that implies pac-man level of blockiness. It isn't. Yes, there are tablets out there with higher resolutions but they are either A) much smaller than this 10" tablet, B) much more expensive, or C) Both of the above. Yes, if you are expecting to watch Blu-ray quality video on this you will be disappointed. For casual web browsing and such, it's fine.
One note: A lot of reviews complain about the viewing angle. Personally, I don't think they are nearly as bad as some people seem to make them out to be. Can you view it at nearly edge-on and have the colors perfect? No, not at all, but who actually does this? While holding it and using it normally, it seemed fine to me. I didn't notice any viewing angle issue at all until I had read about it elsewhere. In fact, my 6 month old $600 HP laptop has much worse of a viewing range than this $130 tablet. Admittedly, I probably tilt the laptop around quite a bit less, but still.
Touch screen works excellent. I haven't even removed the protective plastic from it yet and it works fine.
Performance: Speed is very good all things considered. Much more responsive than I would have expected for a single core.Read more ›
