Book Description

Electric motors and pneumatic and hydraulic drives are just a few of the topics examined by author Timothy Wentzell, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology, in this straight forward introduction to machine design. A direct, logical approach strives to enhance basic understanding of the material by focusing on solving engineering design problems as opposed to working through extensive derivations. A broad collection of realistic examples and practical problems similar to those faced by working engineers encourages knowledge in the field of machine design. For this reason, the book is also usable by future and practicing engineers as a helpful reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Machine Design (Hardcover)

This book was written for the two year engineering technology student and the actual designer and nails that role.
It is direct and covers the topics in an understandable way. The examples are extremly relevant. It should possibly have more problems but the section on the art of design and patents was good except the patent laws have changed slightly

3.0 out of 5 stars Machine design, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Machine Design (Hardcover)
This book is essentially written for technology studnets rather than engineering students. Though the book covers all the topics that are normally included in a traditional machine design book, it eliminates most of the scientific and rigorous examination of the theories that are required to understand the design process. Thus it is suitable for technology students who can directly apply the formulae without knowing the way these have been arrived at. Many of the formulae are also highly simplified. It would have been better if the book has included more practical information which would have helped a practicing engineer.
