Most Bronson fans will fudge their way through his mid to late 80's flicks in search of more classic Bronson before finding this lost classic. Save your time and bucks by going straight to this classic crime thriller. See Bronson create the screen persona that would stay with him the rest of his long career. Bronson shines as the notorious and tough as nails Machine Gun Kelly. He plays a ruthless and mean spirited criminal with no love for anyone and a great fear of death. Great direction and pacing, great action and stylistic photography make for an enjoyable 80 minute diversion into the world of crime in early America. I'm not sure how accurate this was to the real life of Machine Gun, but Bronson brings to life his character in a way that grabbed the attention of a young Hollywood. If you love the tough guy Bronson and are trying to add to your collection, skip most of his later films (Assasination, 10 to Midnight, Kinjite, Messenger...)and go straight for Machine Gun Kelly. I promise you'll get the mean mutha' Bronson that you're looking for!! At this price, how can ya miss? Time to put this on DVD.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great early Bronson, November 9, 2009

Although this is mostly all fiction I really enjoy this movie.
Charles Bronson before he became a huge star. A very good 'B' movie.
I really enjoyed Morey Amsterdam too. I wish his part was bigger.
If you're into older movies with rising stars this is a good place to start.
Track this movie down. Well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bronson Is George "machine gun" Kelly, April 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Machine Gun Kelly [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Charles Bronson in his first starring role as George "machine gun" Kelly, a film close to reality of the notorious gangster of the prohibition era and Bronson is superb in the role, with the surrounding cast right up to par. The film starts out with the perfect bank heist, perfectly drawn out like a map until one member of the gang (Morey Amsterdam) decides to get greedy and "machine gun" seeks out revenge, the next bank job is not as smooth when Kelly forgets to consume a shot of courage, then Kelly's girlfriend trys to convince the gangster to forget about his compulsive fear of cowardness. The real George Kelly was convicted and sent up for kidnapping, sentenced for life, and died in prison after serving twenty one years, nicknamed "pop gun" Kelly, from fellow inmates for being the perfect model prisoner and Kelly apparently not as tough as his reputation. MACHINE GUN KELLY, 1958, almost the perfect gangster film and a must for Bronson collectors, excellent VHS video transfer.

Charlie Bronson plays an unusual role as a sadistic cold- blooded killer because he's conscientious about his height. With his girlfriend,Flo(Susan Cabot),they undertake a high profile kidnapping which leads to his downfall.Comedian Morey Amsterdam plays a stool pigeon in this film. It's an excellent cult classic crime thriller!!
