This review is from: Machine Language Programming for the Commodore 64: Commodore 64/Book and 64K Disk (Hardcover)
This was probably the most important book I had as a kid learning to program. We had a Commodore VIC-20 which was similar enough to the 64 to make this book useful.

Using this book, I was able to write my own machine language monitor/assembler (in BASIC) and then develop my own machine language programs.

Butterfield did a wonderful job making the possibly confusing world of low-level computer programming understandable even to high school students like I was!
