5.0 out of 5 stars A best-kept gothic secret!, January 5, 2002

This review is from: Of Machines & Men (Audio CD)
SO glad to see ... offering this excellent second album by Norwegian band Pale Forest. I happened upon this band by chance (and spent a lot of time tracking down a copy of this CD) and it is still one of my favorite albums. The band has a similarity to The Gathering, yet is overall softer and less electronic - more organic in their instrumentation, but offering a similar amalgam of gothic moodism with beautifully angelic vocals courtesy of lead singer Kristen. While one finds reviews of this splendid band mixed in and around many heavy-metal-oriented web sites, there is actually very little in common between most Goth-metal and Pale Forest. I think of this music (as well as many tracks on their first album "Transformation Hymns") to be almost like a sort of Norwegian folk-rock, but with heavier guitars and a melancholic edge. Excellent, melodic, and unique. Can't wait to see their new album "Exit Mould" offered here on ...!
