It Works!,

This review is from: Mack's EarDryer (Health and Beauty)
My audiologist "yelled" at me for using cotton swabs to dry my ears after showering. She recommended Mack's Ear Dryer highly, so I bought it. It really works! It arrived already charged, and after many uses I still haven't had to recharge it. It is great at drying out my ears; warm air blows the water out and when it feels cool, the ear is dry. Each press of the button gives enough warm air to dry one ear. It has 5 different color covers, so the whole family can use it. I highly recommend it.

I'm a frequent swimmer and often have to deal with water inside my ears. I bought the Mack's ear dryer to try to address that problem. I'm rather disappointed with this product. The first one I got would completely discharge after only two days, even when I did not use it at all. The manufacturer claims that a single charge should last about 50 uses. So I returned it under warranty. They sent me a new one and... same deal, after only three days the battery is completely depleted, even when I don't use it. I'm tired of sending it back for replacement; so I simply use it plugged into the outlet. But that falls way short of what I expected.

A must purchase if you get ear infections,
This review is from: Mack's EarDryer (Health and Beauty)
I bought the Sahara ear dryer which is the same as the Mack dryer (other than the logo). First off, don't mention that you're buying (or have bought) an ear dryer to your friends or you'll get (at best) a blank stare; at worse you'll be laughed at for some time (especially if they think you've said "rear dryer"). But, if you suffer from chronic ear infections, this is a must purchase.
I swim pretty much every day, and have battled ear infections for years. Tried all the usual treatments to prevent them, such as alcohol drops, ear plugs, vinegar, and combinations thereof. They help (especially the ear plugs) but I still wind up with an infection every couple of months. That's both painful and expensive, since the doc won't give multiple refills of antibiotic drops without an exam. Saw this and thought I'd give it a shot. In a word, it's fantastic! Not the most sophisticated device in the world - you just place it in your ear, turn it on, and it blows warm air for about a minute. At first, it will feel cool as the water in your ear drys. Then it gets warm. Very comfortable, and very quiet (an important feature of anything that gets near your ear). I've been using this for nearly one year and, so far, zero ear infections. Longest I've ever gone without one! I use it twice daily, and it really makes my ear feel better (for some reason, I only get infections in one ear). When it arrived I was in the midst of an infection, and the drying action really helped cut down on the usual discomfort of an infection in progress. Once that one cleared up, I've never gotten another. Wish I could give it more than five stars!

I love tech toys but...,
By About fifteen years ago I had such a bad case, I would use wooden matchsticks to scratch the insides of my ears, until they were crusted and even bleeding. The pain was severe, but the itch was still worse. I wasn't a swimmer and had never heard of swimmer's ear, so I had no idea what the problem was. One night I happened to be watching some news show, 60/60 or 20 Minutes, I forget which one - they did a piece on swimmer's ear and how to treat it. Turns out it's incredibly simple - after every swim (or in my case, every shower) put a couple of drops of rubbing (Isopropyl) alcohol in each ear canal. The alcohol both dries the ear canals, and kills the bacteria which thrive in the moisture and cause the itch. In the fifteen years since I have not had a *single* case of swimmer's ear. While they recommended using an eyedropper, I find that dipping a q-tip into the alcohol, then gently rolling it around just inside the outer edge of the ear canal gets enough alcohol in there to do the job. Since these guys want you to buy the Isopropyl to clean the Ear Dryer anyway, try that on your ears first, and see if you still want to spend the remaining $99. Some folks are afraid that alcohol will also remove the "natural ear wax" that your body creates - this is a little like worrying about soap removing the "natural oils" in your skin. In both cases, just use a little common sense and don't overdo it. Even if you get your ears wet several times a day, drying them out once, at the end of the day, is enough to prevent the bacteria from establishing a foothold. One note of caution - you should always be careful sticking *anything* into your ears. In this case though, you don't need to go very far in, and the alcohol will naturally find its way to the same place that the water did.

not highly effective,

I should start by saying I've had ear issues my whole life where they are always wet. I had used solely q-tips for a while, but my ENT switched me to using a hair dryer, which worked better. However it's no fun to be sticking a hair dryer in your ear for an extended period of time, especially on hot days.
This product works way too slowly for me. Nowhere near enough hot air comes out. It also takes 30 seconds to warm up. If this product truly worked for somebody, that same person could stick a blow dryer a foot away from their ear for 15 seconds, and would accomplish the same thing. I guess it needs to be practically ineffective to be considered safe for your ear.

Recently suffered a very bad ear infection. After being treated by an ENT for 2 months, he highly recommend I keep my ears dry from now on. He said I could use a hair dryer or ...and he pulled a box out of a drawer, this "Mack's ear dryer".
It works!!! And yes sometimes it does take more than one cycle. But that is noted in the instructions. The cycles are not long, not too loud and very gentle on the ear. Better than a hair dryer, It doesn't get to hot.It just works!!!

Scuba diver's friend,
This review is from: Mack's EarDryer (Health and Beauty)
this is the best product for drying your ears after scuba diving. It would also be very beneficial for parents of small children, for drying their ears after swimming or washing hair...prevention of ear infections. Drops to put in ears after swimming have limited effect and doctors do not recommend the drops after saltwater or chemically treated pools.

Our 8 year old has had serious problems with his ear. Our Otolaryngologist, who is also the Chair of the Department of Pediatric Otolaryngology at a well-respected academic children's hospital, recommended the ear-dryer to keep the ears healthy through the summer swim/beach-season. So far, it seems to be helping to maintain a dry and healthy ear. It's compact, quiet and a snap to use. Well worth the investment if your child has experienced any ear-health issues. Evidently this can be purchased at local specialty surf-shops, but I found it easier to click and order online.
