5.0 out of 5 stars Peace and Harmony
Very comfortable and really cuts down on noise. I've never slept so well. Key to inserting the plug is to hold it in place while it re-expands this way you get the max comfort and most sound reduction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mack's Earplugs: What Did You Say? What? I Can't Hear You!, March 17, 2010
By
Arthur Senior "Small Engine Mechanic" (A Dimension Beyond Sight & Sound) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs (10 pair) (Baby Product)
Today, I am reviewing a pack of ear plugs from Mack's. Truth of the matter is, in my profession, I find, that hearing protection is a must. Most power equipment operates in the 90 to 110 decibel range. Which means, if you subject your ears to that kind of noise for too long, you can cause hearing loss.

THE EAR PLUGS: These ear plugs are not the flat square shaped kind. These are the cone shaped kind, which has a glossy outer coating. These plugs are made of a soft foam, most likely memory foam. When they get icky from ear wax, you can simply clean them and wear them again, or get a new pair. There is 10 of them in here, so if your smart, you can make them last over a year.

RESULTS: Using these ear plugs for a short period of time, I find, that they reduce the sound level quite well. I am able to operate loud equipment, without damaging my ears. As another plus to these ear plugs, is that they don't cause my ears to sweat like ear muffs will. However, I found, if I am using these plugs for too long, say 2 hours, they will cause my ears to itch like crazy.

ON CITY BUSES: Have you ever road the city bus before? The noisy engine is not the only thing you have to contend with. On occasion you will have those typical bus riders, who are loud and obnoxious, while others are just gossipers. Since we don't know any of these people on the bus, there is no reason why we should have to listen to their outright wining and complaining, and above all, obnoxious behavior!

I just pull these ear plugs out of my pocket, and slip them into my ears, problem solved. Thereby, reducing that 60DB on the bus to, drum roll please, a pleasant 28DB! I then can close my eyes and think about work, or watch the scenery go by. Oh look, a sheep dog being kicked in the head by a brave sheep. Thats something you don't see everyday, hilarious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairly straightforward. Soft enough for sleeping, September 25, 2010

Bought these earplugs because I sleep with a window A/C unit in my room. Blocks out the noise very well. I move around a lot when I'm sleeping, and these are soft enough that they don't poke into my ear when I lie on my side, and they only come out when I take them out. Fairly straightforward purpose for this item, and it works great.

QUIET!!! Just make sure the plugs are all the way in if you want max silence. But they are very comfortable, and very affordable for ear protection or a quieter, undisturbed sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best earplugs I've tried, August 18, 2011
By
This review is from: Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs (10 pair) (Baby Product)
Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs are the best of several I've tried. They're much better than the orange ones Walgreen's sells, and they're better than the coarse, hard foam, square cut, off-white cylindrical ones from most hardware stores. They're also better than the EAR yellow ones sold in single pairs at hardware stores, gun ranges, etc.

Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs are very soft, seal very well and have the best sound attenuation of any of the ones mentioned above. They're the best combination of all of those attributes that I've found so far. Highly recommended.

To use them, roll them up into a small cylinder then insert in the ear canal and let them expand by themselves. If they seat correctly, they should be comfortable and block out sound very effectively.

Really these are the best I've ever tried. I was pleasantly surprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic earplugs, July 16, 2011
This review is from: Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs (10 pair) (Baby Product)
I have chronic migraines with bad sound sensitivity, and even if I'm not having an episode I can be sensitive to loud sounds, and some sounds will trigger a migraine. This may not be the most common reason people wear earplugs, but I know I'm not the only one in this situation.

These Mack's earplugs, the flesh-toned version that blocks 32db, are the most comfortable and block irritating sounds better (an important combo) than the others I have tried over the years. I use them when my partner watches a loud movie, at the doc clinics where people bring in their screaming children, at the grocery, and anytime in public when the sound level is less than comfortable for me. I carry a pair in a camera-film canister in my handbag at all times; in this relatively hard plastic container they're well protected from purse lint and from getting squished. They do not block ALL sounds, I can usually hear my partner speak to me, but I have to pop one out of my ear and ask him to repeat himself. This is good enough for me. I like them enough that I do my typical thing when I really like a product: I want to buy a case of them in case the company stops making them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super at blocking noise, July 1, 2011

This review is from: Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs (10 pair) (Baby Product)
I believe this is the best of the various types that Macks has to offer. They are rated at 32 db and I could not find any with a higher rating. If you really want to block out noise, I don't know why anyone would get some with a lower rating (for example, they offer one rated at 22 db). There are others rated at 32 db (Mack's Snore Blockers Soft Foam Earplugs 12 pr), but they do not block noise as well as the Ultra (see my review of the Snore Blockers).

If you want to sleep thru a "snorer", crack of dawn lawn mowing, or other noises that interefere with sleep, these are great. Also great for use in hotel/motel rooms if there is a lot of noise in adjoining rooms and/or in the conference rooms or ballrooms in some hotels or if the AC or heater in your room is very loud. Also blocks airplane noise in airport hotels.

I also found a travel alarm that is sure to wake you up, even when using these. See my review of it here: Elgin Travel Alarm Clock
