5.0 out of 5 stars The Mercedes of strollers
This stroller is wonderful. We had a Graco (which I absolutely hated) and a Maclaren Volo which was great...it steered like a dream...but which had a few problems; no raincover, skimpy sun canopy, no recline, no seat padding, and I thought it sat a bit too low to the ground. The Techno XLR solves all of these problems while not sacrificing greatly on weight or bulk...

We've owned six (6) MacLaren strollers, including this one.

In spite of the recall, we felt confident in buying another MacLaren for the arrival of our fourth child - and in fact purchased this for the car seat adapter, something MacLaren had never provided in the past.

This review is from: Maclaren Techno XLR Buggy Stroller Charcoal and Burnt Orange (Baby Product)
This stroller is wonderful. We had a Graco (which I absolutely hated) and a Maclaren Volo which was great...it steered like a dream...but which had a few problems; no raincover, skimpy sun canopy, no recline, no seat padding, and I thought it sat a bit too low to the ground. The Techno XLR solves all of these problems while not sacrificing greatly on weight or bulk. The canopy is generous (it upzips for even more coverage than in the photo), it includes a raincover which is a snap to put on in seconds, it reclines almost flat (my 10 month old slept in it for a full two hours on one trip) and it's a little taller and wider than other maclarens so my baby has a bit more room and doesn't sit so low to the ground. The padding for the seat is thick and seems very comfortable. It's lightweight compared to other strollers with comparable features, and it folds and unfolds with one hand. I've been able to take it out of the trunk and unfold it while holding a sleeping baby and without waking him up! I haven't tried it on buses or trains yet, but it did take it on a trip to the Caribbean and it was easy to fold at the gate for gate checking.
A big plus is that it is stylish, lots of great color combos (I have the grey and orange) with none of those horrid pastel baby colours and prints that other stroller manufacturers seem to favour. Another big plus is that it comes already assembled, just take it out of the box and go.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would buy this stroller all over again!, May 1, 2008

before buying a stroller I did a lot of research, I did not want to be one of those moms that go through 5 strollers before they find the right one, this and most MacLaren strollers seemed to have very good reviews from other parents so I decided to give it a try since it came with a money back guarantee if I wasn't satisfied. I love it! I take my son to the mall and we can breeze by between the ailes where moms with the so popular Graco's can't, my son definitely seems very confortable, it comes with an extension so you can use it with an infant seat ( I had Graco Snugride). My son's nanny claims it's the best stroller she has ever seen/used (she's seen plenty as she's been nanny/mother/grandma for a few decades) and I've actually received compliments on it so I guess that means it's stylish looking. If you're tall you'll love it since the handle bars extend to accomodate taller people. After a year I have not found a bad thing about this stroller and it's still in great shape...will definitely be used by baby #2. Light enough for this 5 ft. 110 lb. mom to take out of car and set up with one hand. It does not have a bottle/cup holder for mom but I bought a $5 clip on holder that works great.

1.0 out of 5 stars My sixth MacLaren, and a real lemon - with *terrible* customer service!!, July 29, 2010
We've owned six (6) MacLaren strollers, including this one.

In spite of the recall, we felt confident in buying another MacLaren for the arrival of our fourth child - and in fact purchased this for the car seat adapter, something MacLaren had never provided in the past.

We used a Graco car seat, the exact model specified on the MacLaren materials and website. The bar that attaches to support the car seat was only initially tight-fitting, and within the first month of use it snapped off multiple times, causing the car seat to nearly fall to the ground. (Thankfully the belt was very firmly attached, so the baby was not injured.) The seat adapter *was* installed exactly as the directions advised, and my engineer husband even tried to determine a better/safer means of using this.

Additionally, the stroller is wobbly; not stable as our other MacLarens have been, and the side 'lock' that is to keep it closed when folded frequently comes unlatched.

My REAL frustration came when I contacted MacLaren customer support. A 'gentleman' asked me what model of car seat I was trying to install. When I replied that it was a MacLaren-approved Graco model, his response was a request for me to send them the stroller AND the car seat for inspection. Like many families, we have ONE car seat, so it seemed that MacLaren arrogantly expected us to go purchase another while they tried to place blame on another manufacturer's product?

The car seat was (is) in excellent condition, and in fact works beautifully with the UppaBaby Vista that we purchased after the MacLaren nearly dumped our baby on the ground on numerous occasions.

We've yet to receive any form of resolution from MacLaren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still love this stroller 2 years later, December 28, 2008

(REAL NAME)
The review below was from 2007 and our daughter still loves this stroller. We've since added the Phil and Ted double stroller to our ride list but the MacLaren XLT is still her favoite at two years and four months old and 36 inches tall and 35 pounds.

Previous review
We just received this stroller two days ago. It is beautiful and looks every bit the price tag. We are somewhat worried about the size of the stroller because we live in the city. That said, the extra seat cushion is ultra comfortable and our daughter literally giggled when we put her in for a test-sitting!

The color combination is very chic and the wheels move smoothly even when pushed quickly down uneven city street.

I do wish the hood isn't so wide and high but it does offer uva/uvb protection and that was the main reason we choose this model over the lighter and probably more city friendly Maclaren strollers.

5.0 out of 5 stars highly recommended stroller, November 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the top-of-the-line stroller by Maclaren. It's light yet sturdy, easy to use and maneuver, and fold and store. The quality of the materials used are top-notch. More importantly, the seat and harness are well padded and very comfortable and safe for the baby. It's also compatible with several infant car seats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stroller but a few flaws, April 27, 2010
By
L. Husi "lkristin" (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
Let me start by saying I bought the Maclaren Techno XLR about two months ago and I have been very happy with this stroller. It is not perfect but it is a great fit for me and I use it all the time. My son is 12 months old and for the first year of his life we used a travel system stroller by Graco. The Graco stroller had a really smooth ride and it reclined flat which my husband and I both loved but it weight over 25lbs empty and took up all our trunk space. Plus as a suburban mom I dreaded lifting the Graco in and out of my trunk.

So after a lot of research and test drives I bought the Maclaren Techno XLR. My wish list for a stroller included needing for it to be lightweight with a compact fold. I also wanted a stroller that felt really solid and had larger wheels since a lot of the sidewalks I use are uneven. Plus I needed storage I loved the huge basket I had on my old stroller and I needed lots of storage in my new stroller. Lastly, the stroller I had to have a reclining seat since my son is still little and falls asleep on outings.

Happily, the Techno XLR delivers on all this. The Techno XLR is a big stroller and quite tall (I'm 5'4 and can push it easily so no worries if you aren't super tall) which makes it a great choice for moms looking to replace a travel system. It is the largest of Maclaren's strollers but it also has the most storage since it comes with a roomy basket and a two pocket organizer. I take this stroller to grocery store all the time for quick trips and can always hold everything in the basket. The ride is very smooth due to the larger wheels and this stroller has great handling and steering. You can easily push it one handed! It has a compact fold and only weighs 16lbs (a lot for an umbrella stroller but really easy if you are just lugging it in and out of your trunk) The seat is very cozy for baby and there is plenty of room to grow with this stroller and the seat reclines almost flat making it safe for newborns. Plus the Techno XLR comes with a car seat adapter which makes it a breeze to convert to a travel system. All of these features are the reason I went out and paid nearly 400.00 for a stroller.

Now nothing in life is perfect so there are a few pitfalls to owning this stroller. First, it is really hard to carry this stroller one handed with the strap. It needs a better lock to keep the stroller folded. If you hold the handled and the webbing of the basket then the stroller should stay closed but this can be awkward and you can't do this for a very long time. Second, the wheels get a bit squeaky. The Maclaren website recommends spraying the wheels with dusting polish which I did and it seems to do the trick fine. Third, this is a big stroller and at 16lbs it is certainly not light so you might want to re-consider if you are looking for a super light stroller. Try the Maclaren Volvo instead it is only 8.5lbs. Last, the sun shade is rather short and you have to remember to fold it first otherwise you will damage the shade and the stroller. Other than that this a great stroller it works really well for suburbanite parents looking for storage but still want to have some space in their trunk.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best lightweight stroller!!, November 6, 2009
Just received this stroller today and I am in love! The colors are fabulous! I am sick at the fact that I have purchased so many strollers over the last 8 years! We have the Maclaren Volo which I love but hate the fact that there is no seat padding and no recline. There is not one thing that I could possibly complain about this stroller. Buy it, you will not regret it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent choice, February 10, 2010

This review is from: Maclaren Techno XLR Buggy Stroller Charcoal and Burnt Orange (Baby Product)
My husband and I made alot of research before purchising this stroller. We wanted a stroller that was suitable from newborn to an older age and that was not heavy and easily puted in the trunk of our car.
The maclaren XLR is perfect becaus is light weighted, and its a bit bigger than the regular one, we have a big baby, so its great for him.
The pockets are a little small, we would like them to be bigger, but are ok.
It comes with a rain plastica that is ideal for the rain and the wind in tropical countries like ours.
Confortable when our baby was a new born and even more confortable now that he is 10 months old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maclaren baby strollers - great items, May 7, 2010
I was on the fence on this one. has my first baby and didnt really know what to buy. A the reviews here were helpful but i also found a site that i want to share which may be as helpful to others as it was to me. [...]. I am very happy with the stroller. Its lightweight, which is a must, and easy to use. I think it was a bid pricey but its well built so its worth it.
