My daughter (4th) grade was having homework in which she continually needed a dictionary for home use. We purchased this one, and it has been very worth it. We have used it time and again all year long and will continue to do so. The definitions are easy to read and comprehend, as well as up to date. My daughter loves it and so do I. It is written for a child to read and understand, yet at the same time, the definitions are accurate and not "watered" down just because it is a dictionary for kids. I highly recommend it to all parents of kids who will need help with definitions in their homework and also, as they read for pleasure. Finally, I AM a teacher, and as I teacher I recommend it HIGHLY as I have had many opportunities to compare it to many other dictionaries.... and this is one of the best!!

I have 8th graders that are academically challenged. This dictionary provides good definitions, a sentence using the word, and sometimes even a picture. The kids love it and feel like they understand a definition when they look it up. With other dictionairies, the definitions are written on a level which seems to make the assumption that you already know a lot of vocabulary. This dictionary breaks down meanings without losing the the ability to appear erudite in the process. It more than suits the students' needs and mine.

Macmillan Dictionary for Students is one of the best dictionary available for Middle Schoolers, High Schoolers, and people who like to use simple dictionaries. The trouble with many college and unabridged dictionaries is that you can look up a word and find several more in the definitions that you then need to look up. I have a large vocabulary, but don't like to get into these "word chains." Macmillan defines a large number of words of the high school and even college level and gives very precise and accurate definitions. It also is one of the few simple dictionaries that gives word derivations. The Webster's New World Student's (high school) also gives derivations; but I find Macmillan's derivations to be more complete and understandable. The Macmillans definitions are also simpler. I use this dictionary myself and also bought one for my son and nephew for their college studies. It's a perennial -- has been on the market for at least a decade or so because it's one of the best out there.

The dictionary has easy to understand definitions. My son has had to use an adult level dictionary to look up some words from 5th grade advanced vocabulary that were not in this one, but perhaps that is to be expected.

I've used lots of different dictionaries, but this is one of my favorite. It has good, clear definitions, and it has great derivations.

Not too difficult to read, but still comprehensive.

Definitely worth the cost.

The Macmillan Dictionaries for Students that we ordered arrived amazingly quickly, were packed in just enough "stuff" to keep them from getting all dinged up, and have been an invaluable resource for our school children here at Good Shepherd Lutheran School. We'd been researching and researching to find just the right dictionaries, and when we found these, at the amazing price that we got them for, we couldn't pass them up!

This dictionary breaks down the definiton with several definitons and illustrations. I reccommend this dictionary for all students..

there was,however,a lack of interesting adjectives! however, it did help me when needed, but now i own and frequently use,a Merriam-Websters collegiate dictionary,deluxe edition. as a student, my macmillan dictionary for students, came of great use. i enjoy relaxing and reading/skimming through dictionaries , and well, this one kept me entertained for several days. i was,however, dissappointed by the lackof interesting adjectives,but this dictionary is still a good buy!

I read this Dictionary from Macmillan, cover-to-cover. It was completely and utterly suspenseful! I loved how you turned a page and there were another 65 or so words! I also memorized all the definitions in this wonderful dictionary, you should too! Recommend it to all your studious friends! I also recommend that you read the Oxford Family Encyclopedia. Its the "ultimate single-volume reference for home, school, and office"! Enjoy, Readers!
