5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
This book really inspired me to go into macro photography. I was reading an article about Mike Moats in PhotoLife and was taken by his unique photos. I decided immediately to order the book. I like all the stories behind every photo he took. The book has useful information, tips, but most of all a great collection of unique photos. Can't wait to get my first macro lens!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing overall
I received this book just before a vacation, hoping to improve my closeup photography. I enjoyed the layout of the book with the format of a discussion of each photo and how it was created. I was disappointed in the author's lapses of photographic ethics, in that he routinely picked wild flowers to add to his composition. There is also a lack of biological knowledge as a...

Mike Moats has written an enjoyable read about macro photography. The book is well organized and teaches without being pedantic. The book covers equipment, technique, and provides examples of good macro photography. If you have any interest in learning and knowing macro photography this is a must read. Cheap at twice the price!

I enjoyed reading Mike Moats' photos. And now I enjoyed reading his book.

The book is very easy to read. Mike Moats shared how he created each images frankly. The images are pretty. You will want to get your camera and macro lens to go out and shoot it at f/32 after reading it.

I think Mike Moats' real strength is in his ability to create the images in his mind before he actually shoot them.

I do wish the book could be printed in a better quality paper though as the images are very good.

Eric.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and inspiring close-up photos, August 17, 2009
This review is from: Macro Photography - Tiny Landscapes (Perfect Paperback)
I have just finished reading a library copy of "Tiny Landscapes" by Mike Moats, and am thorougly amazed by his close-up photos. He makes this difficult type of photography seem easy, which I believe is the trait of a photographer who has developed his skill through many hours of hard, inspired work. I'm ordering my own copy of the book from Amazon now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing overall, February 6, 2010

I received this book just before a vacation, hoping to improve my closeup photography. I enjoyed the layout of the book with the format of a discussion of each photo and how it was created. I was disappointed in the author's lapses of photographic ethics, in that he routinely picked wild flowers to add to his composition. There is also a lack of biological knowledge as a fly is identified as a bee in one photo and there is no attempt to identify a frog or dragonfly to species. This is just a pet peeve of mine as I feel one should always take the effort to identify what you are photographing. It certainly adds to the pleasure of the process if you know and understand your subject. On a positive note, I did enjoy and benefit from the author's comments of the basics of macro photography and the friendly discussion with each photo.
