Good book to learn FH10 but not great,
By
This review is from: Macromedia FreeHand 10: Training from the Source (Paperback)
This book does present many step by step examples with which you will learn how to use this program. I am using the book right now and am pleased with my progress. I am also pleased with how easy it is to draw using Freehand's tools to make vector graphics. However, the book does have a slight tendency to word a step confusingly from time to time. I have even found that occasionally, I will have to figure out my own way to do something b/c the text wasn't specific enough. But this is rare.

If you have F9 book don't buy this book.,

It is the same book as the 'Freehand 9 Authorized' by Macromedia Press, maybe because F10 is F9+some cosmetics. It is a step by step instruction book with 10 lessons. You may start using the Freehand 10 (or 9) as the absolute beginner with the help of this book. Almost all the tools of F10 are utilised, at least once, during the lessons. This book is a good introduction to F10 but lots of practices are needed after you complete the lessons, in order to 'learn' the tools and the capabilities of F10.

This book has got to be the best book for learning how to use Freehand. I am very amazed with my progress and I am not even that far in the book. Each tutorial seamlessly builds on the other. This is an excellent buy.

Lots of errors,

It's really a good book, but the amount of errors and typos is not accceptable. Oftentimes, you have to guess and try for yourself until you find the right methods. For a book aimed at the true beginners that is unforgivable. However, the annoying errors aside, it has good training examples.

Excellent Introduction to Freehand,

This review is from: Macromedia FreeHand 10: Training from the Source (Paperback)
When I purchased this book, I had no experience with Freehand or with any other vector-based graphics program. After the first five chapters, I'm already producing impressive-looking art for my website. Freehand has a pretty steep learning curve, but if you read this book and go through the tutorials, you'll be surprised at how quickly you learn the program. Based on this book, I definitely plan to check out the rest of Macromedia's "Training from the Source" series.
