3.0 out of 5 stars needs a tighter chain
Okay, I know it's erotica, but this book had one (or two) sex scenes too many. I felt exhausted and sore. The ending made no sense at all, but you don't read these books for the plot.. However, that being said, with judicious reading and skimming, I feel this could be a very fine book (ie it just need better editing) And despite my criticisms it's still a keeper for me...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasies come alive ....., June 13, 2005
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
"Good girl" Jessica "J.C." Sterns is looking for a bad boy to help her unleash the bad girl that is just dying for a chance to be let loose. Jessica having spent the last ten years caring for her mother, who has now passed on now wants to explore life and has found just the place and man. Applying for a job as a cook on Mac Hollister's ranch and going from city gal to country gal is just the beginning of the challenges J.C. has set for herself. At 29 Jessica is looking for the perfect candidate fulfill her sexual fantasies. Enter Mac Hollister, owner of The Circle H and JC's new boss.

Mac Hollister is thoroughly dismayed to learn that his newest cook, J.C. Sterns, is a woman. This dainty city girl, with the perfect hair and manicure, can't possibly keep up with the demands that the job will require. Mac doesn't even want to think about how his ranch hands are going to react after seeing this beauty. JC is not Mac's normal type of woman but Mac can't deny that his spunky, feisty new cook intrigues him to no end.

Before Mac knows what has hit him, he is agreeing to an affair and being Jessica's temporary lover. Unfortunately Mac underestimates "lil" Jessica, who takes him on a ride of lust and emotions that he has never experienced before. Fulfilling JC's every sexual need, Mac realizes that he has found the perfect woman for him, but will she stay with him or go back to her city life when all of her fantasies are fulfilled?

Mac is an Alpha male in every sense of the word, but is willing to do anything and everything to please JC, who has snuck into his heart. Jessica is fearless in her quest for adventure with a wicked sense of humor and intelligence to boot Jessica best's even the harshest of her critics.

UNCHAINED: MAC's LAW takes the reader on a roller coaster ride. Full of emotions, laughter, and the hottest love scenes that will leave you gasping for air and on the edge of arousal. Sarah McCarty's attention to the minutest detail never fails to pull me right into her stories. I felt like I was on Mac's ranch for I could smell Jessica's cooking, hear the shuffle of cowboy's feet coming to dinner after a hard day's work, and hear their comaraderie at the breakfast/dinner table.

Ms. McCarty's love scenes are so full of intimacy and emotions that sometimes I felt like a voyeur. Speaking of which, Mac and Jessica explore that, plus so much more. I became an instant fan of Ms. McCarty's after reading her first book PROMISES LINGER; her books are seamless, and she is the master at fleshing out secondary characters. MAC's LAW is Book One in Ms. McCarty's Unchained series, and I am very much looking forward to what she has in store for us with some of Mac's hunky friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot From Beginning to End, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
Having heard such wonderful things about Sarah McCarty's writing, I couldn't wait to read one of her books for myself. And, who can go wrong with a hunky, stubborn alpha cowboy and the one woman who can keep him in line?

I loved Mac's Law. From the very beginning this story is a fun romp with laugh out loud scenes intermixed with serious drama. This story makes the reader run the gamut of emotions, and the entire time the reader is cheering for Jessie and Mac to end up happily ever after.

Jessie comes across with just the right touch of vulnerability after taking care of her ailing mother for the last 10 years, and strong determination. Her desire to work on Mac's ranch, and her presenting him with her sexual "to do" list, makes her a strong, modern-day woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Mac, having lived through his mother's horrible depression, tries to wrap anyone he loves in cotton, and Jessie forces him to think, and to grow.

With sizzling sex, deep emotions, and great romance, Mac's Law will have something for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, April 7, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
If there are reviews available for a book, I always read through them because who better to recommend a book that a fellow book lover? Having said that, in the years that I've used Amazon.com this is the only the second review that I have ever felt compelled to write. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could!

After falling in love with the Promise series, I was very excited to read this first book in the Unchained series. One of Ms. McCarty's trademarks is her skill at creating scenes and situations that allow you to really connect with the characters and keep you cheering for them throughout the entire book. As with the Promise series, the character development in Mac's Law was fantastic and the love scenes were so hot I had to keep on checking my book for scorch marks! There is also a wonderful balance between love and lust which culminates with a menage scene that was so thoughtfully written, I felt that it really enhanced the beauty of Mac and Jessie's bond.

I've read thousands of books and have only kept a handful on a "keepers" shelf (a total of eight books to be exact) - if Ms. McCarty keeps writing (please God yes!), I can see my collection expanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mac's Law...another keeper!, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
Jessie longs to unleash her pent up sexual desires and once she sets eyes on Mac she knows he is the man to do it. Mac does his best to discourage Jessie because he "thinks" she is not the right woman for him, but Jessie knows better. Little does he know that Jessica has made a "to-do" list and she plans to live out most if not all of her fantasies with him. Mac and Jessie are multi-dimensional characters with sizzling chemistry, both in and out of the bedroom.

Keep a bucket of ice handy when reading about Mac and Jessie! As usual Ms McCarty does not disappoint and takes the reader through a gauntlet of emotions. I know when I read a Sarah McCarty book I'm going to laugh, cry, cheer for the hero/heroine and squirm around in my chair from the HOT love scenes!

The secondary characters are so memorable that when you are finished with Mac's Law you won't be able to wait until the next Unchained book comes out. HINT! HINT! Zach needs his own story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5-star book for Ms. McCarty!, July 25, 2005
By
Anne R (Wisconsin United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
When Jessica Sterns applies for the job as a cook on the Circle H ranch, she expects the owner to be old, gray, and crotchety; but when she runs into Mac Hollister, all six feet of gorgeous masculinity, she quickly realizes the error of her assumption. The man radiates testosterone and sets her hormones on fire and she can't believe her luck when she finds out that he's her boss!

When Mac meets Jessie he quickly learns there's more to her than meets the eye. When he finds out she's the J. C. Sterns that applied for the cook position on the Circle H, he immediately dismisses her tells her there was a misunderstanding, but Jessie doesn't back down. She stands her ground and insists on a chance to prove herself. Mac reluctantly agrees to a two-week trial.

On the outside she appears fragile and feminine, but Jessie is a woman who knows how to take care of herself and she's got a steely determination that has Mac wondering just what other surprises lurk beneath the surface. Oh, and what wonderful surprises she's got in store for him! The biggest surprise a list of sexual to-do's which he agrees to help her fulfill without qualm.

The sparks fly between them and one by one they check off items on the list. As each item gets checked off, their emotions for one another get stronger and stronger. It's when they reach the last item on the list that Jessie realizes that she only wants to live out her fantasies with Mac. Forever.

Sarah McCarty has done it again! Unchained: Mac's Law is a fabulously sensual read that will have you laughing out loud in some parts, and squirming in your chair in arousal in others. The depth of Ms. McCarty's characterization is nothing short of phenomenal. With each and every book, I feel like I can personally relate to each of the characters and that I am in the story with them. The sex between Mac and Jessie is scorching, as it is between all the couples in her books. But, Ms. McCarty adds something new to her writing: the element of a partial-menage. While I am not a fan of menage, I understand the deeper meaning behind the partial-menage so I was not at all put off by the addition of this; in fact, I found it to be a very touching part of the story. If you read the story, you will see what I mean, and if I tell you any more I'll ruin it for you, so I'll stop here.

Unchained: Mac's Law is by far one of the best books I have ever read, as are all of Sarah McCarty's books. If you're looking for an emotional yet sexy, fun yet tender story of two people finding love, then you have definitely found it in this erotically romantic tale! I am definitely looking forward to the next installment of the Unchained series, and I can't wait to see where Ms. McCarty takes me next!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, August 24, 2005
By
Teasley "Teri" (Anderson, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
After flipping through this book before reading, I almost didn't read it. The NEAR menage ALMOST made me pass this one up. That would have been a real shame. I thought "well it is a Sarah McCarty". All I can say is WOW. I had read the 3 in the Promise series so I knew that no one, and I mean NO ONE, does it better than Sarah when it comes to writing. This was no exception. Mac and Jessie stole my heart. I loved the near menage when they realize that they want no one but each other. I only hope Zach will get his own story soon. I laughed, I cried and I hated it when it was over. Sarah's books are definately re-reads for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still cheering!, July 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Mac's Law (Paperback)
This book centers on Jessie--out heroine--propelled with single-minded purpose toward finding the sexual fulfillment she has dreamed of; fulfillment she has created for herself in fantasy only. Until now.

That she finds in Mac, her designated guide, a man whose skills and experience put him firmly outside the bounds of this genre's more traditional romantic hero, only adds to the uncertainty and excitement for Jessie and the reader.

Adding to the sexual excitement is the breath-hitching tenderness promised in every Sarah McCarty read. She takes special care of these characters--as she does throughout all of her work. The result is a love born of adventure, intelligence, respect, sensuality and--to keep the reader in a near constant state of frenzy--appetite.

Pushing the boundaries a bit more than in her previous work, McCarty employs a near menage at the story's powerful conclusion, skillfully using the scene to culminate Jessie's fantasy To Do list. Here, McCarty commands courage from Jessie, Mac (now deeply in love and equally possessive of Jessie) and the reader.

Given the care McCarty shows her characters, I was initially startled when she invited another into Mac and Jessie's bedroom. Trusting the author however, I rose to her challenge and was pleasantly surprised when exhilaration replaced trepidation. When I finished this book, I was still cheering the romantic couple.

They have sex. Rancher holds back anal sex from woman because of mommy issues. Woman leaves rancher until rancher realizes he needs woman in "every" way. They reunite to have all kinds of sex....The end.
