1.0 out of 5 stars Some things aren't worth the money regardless of how cheap they may be., October 23, 2005

This review is from: Macvision MA833A-2R 256 MB MP3 Player Red (Electronics)
Granted I bought the cheapest mp3 player I could find: the Macvision MA833A-2R 256 MB MP3 Player, it wasn't worth even that.

There is not a 'hold' button. The buttons are extremely sensitive and were constantly getting bumped. The screen was nearly impossible to read. And the kicker, it was going through batteries in under 2 hours.

I ended up returning this player and purchasing a SANDISK MP3 Player SDMX1512A10. After the rebate that was being offered at the time, it was only $15 more than the Macvision. I am not only much happier with the Sandisk player, I literally have no complaints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely... just lovely, August 8, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Macvision MA833A-2R 256 MB MP3 Player Red (Electronics)
There are so many aspects I appreciated about this player. First, it was realatively inexpensive for the amount of space available (256 MB). Next, I really liked the built in voice recorder. I doubt I'll ever use it, but it was still pretty cool just the same. The root menu was very easy to follow and the system configurations allow you to customize things like key lock time, display lighting and crossfade time. Also cool, the player works as a regular flash drive too. It works fast and it's so easy to load and delete my favorite playlists.

The only problem I had with it was the fact that you couldn't really put music into sub-folders and listen to a prefered folder. Sure, it had looping options starting and stopping a group that might span 5 or 6 songs, but that just seemed complicated. Don't let that get you down though, there is still a quick option to help you select a track to start from. That way you don't try skipping through 60 songs to get to that new song from Foo Fighters that you love so much, only to realize it was really on track 22, not 92. Anyway, you get the idea. Now Media Player will recognize sub-folders if you choose a cache option in Media Player, but the player itself won't recognize the music, only the folders themselves. Folders are useful for any recorded messages though, so they still have a purpose.

Long story short, I love my cool new MP3 player. It even came with a cool lanyard that had the headphones going right through it! I know... awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too cheap for its own good, December 13, 2005

As other reviewers have stated: sometimes it's just too cheap to be worth it at all. This is an unbelievably poorly designed product -- sure, it looks great, it plays MP3s, it connects to your computer, fine. But the controls are so annoying (basics, like turning it on and getting it to play your songs is a study in frustration). The little toggle control on the side of it simply too flimsy to be at the center of all operations -- half the time you end up jiggling it by mistake and find yourself recording a .wav when you thought you were about to play a song. Spend a little more, get something that doesn't lack the most rudimentary user friendlyness.
