5.0 out of 5 stars Better picture quality on second season discs
In the first season dvd package Sony sacrificed picture quality in order to cram all 22 episodes on 2 discs. Happily, the 25 episodes which comprise season two are contained on 3 discs and the picture is much sharper as a result.

1.0 out of 5 stars Love the show, hate the discs
I have tried two times now, and the second season just will not work on my DVD player. I can only play the first half of each disc. I can see shows 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the first disc, but I can't get to 5, 6, 7, and 8. And the same on the second and third discs. I am very disappointed, since my favorite episode, the one where Jamie registers to go to college, is on the...

This isn't the only thing that I like better about this set of discs. For one, the writing got much better in the second season. The jokes were funnier, the characters were more solid and for some reason, Helen Hunt is cuter.

Again, there are no "extras" in these discs. No commentary, specials, cut scenes... nothing. But when you consider the low price it's being offered at, it's a great deal regardless. I only hope that the consumer response is strong enough to warrant issuing the remaining seasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars One hilarious TV show..., April 21, 2005
This review is from: Mad About You - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
Nominated for 45 Emmys, and winner of 16 during its eight-year run on NBC, Mad About You became an instant smash hit among TV viewers, in large part due to its Seinfeldian portrayals of married life in the big city. Sporting a catchy piano-laden theme song, the series showcased the unique comic talents of co-creator and co-star Paul Reiser, who sought to produce a show telling the true story of married life (he would later publish the bestselling book Couplehood, a compilation of various anecdotes on relationships)...

Mad About You follows the lives of newlywed couple Paul (Paul Reiser) and Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt), two urban professionals sharing an apartment in New York City. Although they are head-over-heals in love, the two appear to be near total opposites. Paul, a documentary filmmaker, is extremely meticulous, cautious, and careful. Jamie, on the other hand, is a public relations expert with more of a free-spirit outlook on life. With a number of friends and family always in the picture - Jamie's sister Lisa (Anne Ramsay), Paul's cousin Ira (John Pankow), and friends Mark (Richard Kind) and Fran (Leila Kenzle) - Paul and Jamie are constantly bombarded with job-related stress, the strange antics of their friends, and the discovery each others' individual quirks and habits. And it's a recipe that translates into great sitcom entertainment...

The Mad About You (Season 2) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "Murray's Tale" in which Lisa takes the Buchman dog Murray for a walk only to return with the wrong dog. When Paul and Jamie organize a massive search, they eventually uncover the true whereabouts of Murray, along with the couple whose dog Lisa walked off with... Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Married to the Job" in which Paul and Jamie vent about their jobs only to discover that Jamie's boss is sitting right behind them, and "Paul is Dead" in which a man by the same name as Paul passes away, creating a bundle of problems for Paul and Jamie...

Below is a list of episodes included on the Mad About You (Season 2) DVD:

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! Expecting the 3rd!!!, November 25, 2003

1. If you are a fan and bought the 1st season, you will see this is a little better because is a 3 DVD set with a better quality.
2. You are not receiving more, once again, of what you can expect: the aprox. 25 episodes and nothing more than 2 commercials: the trailer of Maid in Manhattan (that bad movie with J.Lo.) and the promotion of other commedies avaliable in DVD. Still NO information, or interviwes or behind the scenes, or a docummentary about the series!
3. They did not add the Spanish subtitles, so -if you don't want to lose anything of the original fun- watch it in English.. in Spanish you miss a lot!!!
4. I think this season was better than the first one!!
5. Third season is something I will buy and recommend for sure! But I HOPE they will give us information and subtitles in other languages!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad About First Three Seasons Only!, April 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mad About You - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
In the second season the show finally finds its true audience. My personal favorite episodes from this season: #2. Murray's Tale (Lisa loses Murray in the park and brings home a Murray double); #6. The Unplanned Child (Murray goes trick-or-treating as a camel); #17. Instant Karma (ill gotten blouse and the difference between taupe, beige, tan, and off-white); #18. The Tape (Jamie and Paul's very private video winds up in the wrong hands); #20. The Last Scampi (classic family disfunction between the Buchmans and Stemples); #21. Disorientation (Paul, Ira, & Lisa frantically try to register Jamie at school before she arrives for her first day). These episodes are now classics as are those in Seasons one and three. I would only recommend the first three seasons as these are the "quintesential" Mad About You. Sadly, season 4 introduces odd changes among which Jamie and Paul's relationship fails as they struggle with jobs, relationships, family, trying to conceive - thus the series takes on a weird downward spiral from there on. The producers received alot of flack from fans, especially in reference to the serious twists in season 4 where Jamie and Paul break up (was it still a comedy or now a drama?). Due to these and other changes, they lost a good part of their original audience but this did not deter them from going ahead with seasons 5 and 6, which seem to be a different sitcom altogether. I already own season #1, will buy #2 and can't wait for #3 - but there I stop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to series 3, January 22, 2004

This review is from: Mad About You - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
Along with the tv show friends, I have never seen mad about you on tv until
they put these on dvd. This is a good show and it is great to be spared of commercials. I love murray the dog he is my favorite character and how can you not like paul reiser and helen hunt. It is great to see lisa kudrow doing her ursula character and then taking it to friends. on the critism though, please give us a better menu selection!!!! the menu is lousy. It is a bit frustrating not to have subtitiles and not available in other languages. while it is good to have a choice to choose the selections of episodes you want to see there should be a choice to let the dvd run all the way thru as well.
I am mad about getting more of these dvds on series 3 and up!!!!

It has been over a year since the release of the second season. Please say it ain't so. Television shows should only be released on Dvd if there is some sort of committment from the vendor to release all seasons. I fear this may have become a trend to release the first season then leave us dangling. I would like as many others to collect the entire group of seasons without becoming part of a "test group"

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not perfect either, May 11, 2003

The Mad About You: Season Two disc is out and while they have made some improvements over the first season, there are still some problems.

The Season Two set comes on three discs with 8 or so episodes per disc. Some claim that this results in improved picture quality, but I can't claim to notice this for myself.

Of the two sets that have been released, this is my favorite by far. Some of the series classic episodes are in this set, like the episode where Jamie's sister loses Murray in the park and comes back with a dog that look like him.

The discs still don't have chapter stops in the individual episodes like other televsion series that have been released on DVD. This is an annoying oversight that makes watching the series more frustrating. The audio quality is good, but this set will not stress out your sound system by any means.

In closing, if you are fan of Mad About You then you should pick this set up. There are some major flaws, but otherwise it is a good buy.

Pro's:

The release of this series on DVD
Classic episodes, like "Paul is Dead" and "The Last Scampi"
Split up on three discs
Improved picture quality, maybe...

Con's:

Still no chapter stops
Still no useful or interesting extras

Equipment Used:
Sony Playstation 2
Phillips 21" television

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad About You Season Three, January 23, 2004
This review is from: Mad About You - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I agree that there should be behind the scenes stuff but when the show was still is production I taped all but about two episodes in the entire series so I'm just pumped they are available on DVD. It's possible that Season Three hasn't been released because of low sales $ but if all the fans let Sony know we want more, it could happen! I have found a website that helps the process. www.tvshowsondvd.com
go there and search mad about you and you should find a place to vote for seasons three and beyond, also you can vote on other shows you want to see on dvd. Tell your friends so we can get more Mad About You!!!!
