So this mouse looks pretty awesome. Being able to adjust it is definitely a huge plus... especially considering it's ability to hold multiple configurations with the programming software. That's about where the positive things I have to say about this mouse ends.

My first mouse worked alright most of the time. Unfortunately every now and then the sensor that determines whether it is on a surface will bug out. This is apparently a pretty common issue that users experience. The only real solution that worked in my case was to tap it on the surface once or twice. This would generally get it to come back online right away.

Aside from this general annoyance, things generally worked pretty well, though most programs and games did not recognize the second wheel below the left and right button. Not really a huge deal though.

However, after around a year to a year and a half, in addition to the sensor not always working properly the mouse had developed a short in the cable. Initially it would just briefly flicker and disconnect for a millisecond or two - enough though that gaming became quite difficult. After a few weeks this problem got worse and it became almost impossible to use.

This is of course where I learned how horrible MadCatz's customer support is. Having moved cross-country a few times I couldn't locate my receipt. Thankfully, they were willing to work with me and approved a one time warranty. After having to pay to package and ship the mouse back to them (which runs around $15-20), they updated my ticket and said my original mouse had been repaired and shipped back.

After around a week I got a mouse back - it was a different mouse, which wasn't altogether unexpected.

After the first few months the mouse stopped tracking. I contacted Mad Catz and sent my mouse in for repairs. When I got it back it worked for about a week and a half and the exact same problem occurred again. I tried contacting Mad Catz again and did not get a response. I attempted cleaning and completely reinstalling all drivers and programs, but nothing works. I will never buy another product from this company due to the lack of quality in their products and their terrible customer service. I hope anyone reading stays away from this mouse. Save yourself the trouble and the money.

CONS
-Mouse stops tracking
-Mad Catz will not replace it
-Stay away from this company!!

At first, when I saw the ads and read the spec sheet, I was amazed. I was thinking for about $80 I could get a fully customizable mouse that is great for gaming. To be honest, you change the shape the mice once and basically just forget it. The extra plates and dishes that you get with the mice probably never really gets used. I use the pinky rest, but thats it. Okay what I have described here so far is what I like about the mice.

Here is the bad news:
1. The metal used in the back and around the thumb are prime targets for oxidization. After about 5 months of use, I have noticed that the metal oxidized and is discolored. You would think that if you are selling metal, you would put a coat on it to prevent this kind of chemical reactions from happening in my palm. Mostly a look thing and yeah I know it is minor.

2. This is the deal breaker. After only 1 year of using the mice (and out of warranty), the tracking decides to stop working. I know, this is kinda of a big deal. I know it isn't my USB connection, because everything else about the mice still works, I just can't move my mice in the x or y coordinates. WTF? This isn't just me, there are many people out there with this exact problem, search google.com for RAT 7 tracking issues. I know I use this mice a lot, so I could have used it more than the average bear, but seriously? This is like the most fundamental feature of a mice, if your mice can't track, it is a nice looking $80 paper weight to me. The worst part is that from time to time I would plug the mice in again and it would track again, but only for a brief amount of time until it stops. I have read all the KBs provided by the vendor and read forums and asked support, which brings me to my last negative.

3. The support provided by them is the worst.

I won't bother to speak about the features (which I liked) of the mouse. The bottom line, is it's built like junk. My first one had troubles with the pointer not moving after a few months. My replacement had loose parts, then had the same pointer problem after a few months. I work in IT, so it's not a simple driver issue, it's just a poorly built product. Do yourself a favor and move on.

This mouse is great when it works. I bought this mouse and after several days of use, the tracking stops. Even after I contacted madcatz support and received instructions for solving the issue, the mouse still has tracking problems. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. It really is amazing how much tech was embedded in this device but yet it can't do the basic functions that is expected from a mouse. I have a 7 year laptop mouse that works better than the RAT7.

If you are looking to purchase a gaming mouse, I would highly recommend you look elsewhere.
