I ordered this bike from the Spinning website. I really enjoy spinning at the gym and thought it would be awesome to have a bike at home that I could hop on whenever I had time. I got the package deal, which came with extra Spinning DVDs, a seat cover, and bike computer that displays time, distance, speed, and calories. I would suggest to skip the package unless you really want to know your distance or speed...The DVDs are pretty boring (watching hard-core spinners pedal to cheesy music just doesn't do it for me) and I probably could have just made do using a stop watch for my time and saved the $100 or so it costs. But back to the bike...
Let's start with the cons:
-Don't expect the smooth ride you're used to at the gym. The tension is much more sensitive, making it harder to find a nice tension that's not too easy or so hard I can barely pedal. When the tension is increased, the riding feels rough, like I'm riding through sand. This is my biggest complaint about the bike and what disappointed me the most. The help guy at Spinning pretty much tried to tell me that I was imagining it and that bikes I've used at the gym did the same thing, but it's definitely there and makes riding at a higher tension less enjoyable than it already is.
-The bike makes some clicking and "moaning" noises, which doesn't really bother me as long as it's not something broken inside it that I don't know about.
-The handle bars don't come up very high, but I like mine set higher...This might not bother other people.
...and end on a good note with the pros:
-Shipped pretty quick and was very easy to put together. The water bottle holder was bent when the bike arrived, but they sent me a new one without any problems.
-Even with my complaints above, I still enjoy having a bike at home and use it 2-4 times a week, mostly when I only have time for 20-30 minutes, or as a supplement to other short workouts. If I had it to do over, I'm not sure that I'd spend the money on it...But I did buy it, and I don't regret it now.
I guess I'd say that if you're really into spinning and take a lot of classes at the gym, you'd probably be slightly disappointed with this bike. But if you're someone who's looking for an at-home workout option, but aren't necessarily going to be using it for hard-core workouts, you'd probably be happy with this bike.
