5.0 out of 5 stars A Work of Art
I'll be blunt: This album is my favorite album of the past 5 years. And that is saying something, because I listen to many artists across many different genres. It took a few listens to grow on me at first, but now I appreciate it more with every play. The amount of passion and love that the artist put into the album is obvious. 3.0 out of 5 stars mad love puro mainstream love
i have been a fan of ROBI since his days in maggies dream. in my opinion his masterpiece is "VAGABUNDO", a very intense, poetic, enigmatic and very original sounding record. "MADLOVE" on the other hand is a more accesible record, perhaps his main distributor "sony latin" put pressure on him to tone down his enigmatic image. "MADLOVE" is a love record, DRACO turned himself...

I'll be blunt: This album is my favorite album of the past 5 years. And that is saying something, because I listen to many artists across many different genres. It took a few listens to grow on me at first, but now I appreciate it more with every play. The amount of passion and love that the artist put into the album is obvious. His lyrics are like poetry, yet still have clear hooks. His voice is eerily similiar to Stings' at places, but it is very expressive. The production is simply beautiful and layered, I dare you to find a more well crafted album. I only wish Draco would tour more here in the US. For those who don't know, Draco was a songwriter for hits such as "Livin la vida loca", "The cup of life", and even Sisqo's "The Thong Song"! He has the songwriting thing down 100%, and coupled with the passion of the material here, it is a stunning combination. Buy this album now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse and gorgeous, March 4, 2005
This review is from: Mad Love (Audio CD)
I have to say that discovering Robi Draco Rosa has been a wonderful experience for me. As a former punk rocker (in my NYC youth) and someone of Puerto Rican roots I never expected to find an artist who could represent my diverse musical tastes on one CD. This album goes from fabulous Latin pop to deeply felt goth-like rock. It is rich and intelligent and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album from the Genius!, May 13, 2005
This review is from: Mad Love (Audio CD)
Formidable "first" english album. Robi released "Songbirds & Roosters" (it was actually "Frio" with lyrics in English) before this album, but this was his first one being conceived & produced with the american market in mind. Reminds me of a "Dream of the Blue Turtles"-era Sting during some of the songs. If you love this and want to get a better, deeper, more personal Robi experience, buy "Vagabundo", my favorite album of all-time.

5.0 out of 5 stars REALLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!, June 15, 2004
This review is from: Mad Love (Audio CD)
I HAVE KNOWN ROBI WHEN HE WAS STILL ROBBY ROSA FROM MENUDO DAYS BUT NEVER REALLY FOLLOWED HIS CAREER CAUSE HIS SOLO ALBUMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY(CAUSE OF LANGUAGE DIFFERENCE, THAT'S WHY). I DID NOT KNOW THAT HE HAS AN ALBUM COMING OUT BUT CHECKING FOR NEW RELEASES EVERY WEEK AT A MUSIC STORE, I SAW IT IN "WORLD MUSIC" SECTION, I JUST GRAB IT. FANTASTIC SONGS, EXCELLENT SOUND, SUPERB ALBUM AND SUAVE VOCALS. DIE HARD FANS WHO CAN NOT UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THIS ALBUM PURELY FROM LINGUISTIC NATURE BECAUSE HE SINGS BETTER IN SPANISH( I AGREE, EVEN HIS PAL, RICKY MARTIN SINGS BETTER IN SPANISH IF THEY CAN BE COMPARED) AND GOING INTO MAINSTREAM FROM ENIGMATIC SCENARIO, PLEASE , HE HAS CHANGED AND I SAY IT IS GOOOOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its a ROBI album, which means anything can come out, April 20, 2004
This review is from: Mad Love (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when i saw the cover of this album, i had feared the worst, that one of the people that i admire the most in the music business, the one that once stood up against menudo and refused to kiss the devil's hand, had indeed sold out. Sily me for thinking that.

Ok, there is a few thing we all need to understand about Robi...
-You cant really label his music. Yes, he did go through periods, like for VAGABUNDO, he was heavily influecned in french poetry and gloomy grungy music, which i absolutely love. He also had FRIO, which was a much more pop-oriented album, more acoustic and jumpy, no so dark, the other two albums, they are either an english version of FRIO, or a copilation of recordings from both periods. I didnt think much of songbirds and roosters, but LIBERTAD i dug a lot.
-Opening a ROBI album is like opening a box of chocolates, you dont know what you are gonna get, but its sure to be a sweet treat. If you hadnt learned that from listening to his other four albums, then i wonder about your admiration for the guy.

Knowing this, i pop in the cd, and i find that the first song is a very reggae-oriented one, and then the next one is a very different song, then anotherone sounds completely different, and you hear so many variations its freaking great. The we get to what i concider the jewel song of the album "COMO ME ACUERDO", which is an obious nod-of-the-head to his puertorican roots as if he was combining that puertorican cuatro/spanish flamenco style with a synthonized drum kit, and of course, really great lyrics, giving it a technoed-ballad feel.

So guys, if you are expecting another VAGABUNDO, its not gonna happen. First off, the guy is older than what he was back then, and his views are not the same as they were 7 years agi when he released that album. That was great for its time, but people change, and he is not one who stays in the same genere just for the sake of people he doesnt even know (or his so called "fans"). If you are a true ROBI fan, you will accept this as a ROBI album, which means that anything can come out of this pandora's box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Emotional, October 23, 2004

I heard "Mas Y Mas" on Mtv Espanol, when I was addicted to a novela called "El Alma Herida". I was curious to see how good the videos were on Mtv Espanol. I saw Robi Rosa dancing in the street singing the most cool and beautiful song that expressed such powerful emotion. I just had to know if the rest of his songs were as good as "Mas Y Mas". I checked it out and listened to samples. After listening to samples of all the songs I decided that it was the album for me. I bought it and I've been listening to it everyday since then.

I absolutely love his voice even though it's reminiscent of Sting. I like Sting too, so it was no problem for me. The songs "Como Me Acuerdo", "Solitary Man"(he sounds just like Sting on this one),"Do You Remember", and "Never Know the Truth" are some of the best songs on the album. The entire album is worth buying. He keeps a satin feeling flow going on all the tracks except maybe "Heaven Can Wait" my least favorite.

Anyone who is looking to buy a beautiful sounding album with powerful emotion should buy this album. I just wish that his songs were played more in the US on some of the main stations. I didn't watch him in Menudo because I didn't really like that group much, wasn't my cup of tea. I am definitely a Robi Rosa fan now!

5.0 out of 5 stars A long way from "Menudo" days!, June 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Mad Love (Audio CD)
I had heard many comments on Robi in the past regarding his music, but I never really took the time to listen. I was watching MTV in spanish on cable and there is where I heard him. I was in the other room when I heard the song "mas y mas" and went to see who the guy with the sultry voice was. To my amazement it was Robi. I went out and purchased this cd and actually took the time to listen. What can I say..... This cd took my breath away. Robi is an amazing artist who captures true meaning in his lyrics. A talent very few artists lack of these days. I recommend you buy this cd. It is certainly worth every cent.

I've waited for a while to see Robi Rosa come out from behind the scene. He's been successful with his lyrics for Ricky Martin and others, but you just need to listen to Robi Rosa interpret his own lyrics and you will know what I'm talking about. Passion, rhythm, real music.
