4.0 out of 5 stars MADMEN track season 1
I agree that the song choice could have been better, The McGuire Sisters' version of "Volare" drives me nuts with their mispronunciation of the Italian word "volare" and Rosemary Clooney's "Botch-A- Me" would not have been among her choice to add (she didn't like doing Mitch Miller's arrangements), overall I think that the song choice and original music merit the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment - could have been great - but is not
This soundtrack could have been great like the show, but instead, corners were cut. First of all, where is Don Cherry's Band of Gold? The Bobby Vinton track cuts off abruptly. Why couldn't a sexy track like Esquivel's Mucha Muchacha have been included as a tribute to Joan, the busty office manager? This soundtrack is a dud and the original score lacks luster !

I agree that the song choice could have been better, The McGuire Sisters' version of "Volare" drives me nuts with their mispronunciation of the Italian word "volare" and Rosemary Clooney's "Botch-A- Me" would not have been among her choice to add (she didn't like doing Mitch Miller's arrangements), overall I think that the song choice and original music merit the soundtrack as being at least a 4 star rating. For the people who are too young to remember AM radio, songs were always cut to the two to three minute mark for airplay. Therefore, complaining that Vic Damone or Bobby Vinton's songs being cut or faded out prematurely must remember that the song would have been heard by most people that way, and in that sense the MADMEN writers/composers are going for the authenticity of the time that is being portrayed.

Just received in today's mail. I liked the CD a lot....expecially the song used in the show's opening credits. It's over 5 minutes long. There are so many great songs used during Season One, it would be impossible to include them all.

The DVD for Season One has a Special Feature section, where the music director explains over a few episodes, how the music was chosen and the arguments among he and his staff about how to use it. Fascinating.

The music of this made for TV show, MAD MEN got under my skin and I had to have it. An eclectic collection of music well worth the price. The opening theme in particular....

5.0 out of 5 stars Old World Groove, January 18, 2010

I absolutely love this CD!
I really love the show and I'm so happy that they have put out the soundtracks for them. I had no idea that there was a soundtrack until I came across it at my local music store. I immediately bought it and ran to my truck to listen to it.
It was a gem! Each song is great in its own way. I couldn't wait for my other "Mad" friends to hear it!
I definitely reccommend this to anyone a fan of the era or the show. You won't be disappointed! Well, how could you if you like the show?!
Enjoy to those of you who decide to buy this.
I am currently listening to it right now :)
I can't wait to throw my own "Mad Men" themed party!

I own all three and they are all equally great. This one is particularly sexy and sleek: even if you are not into the show, you should still check this one out. I love all the songs here, since it is hard to get away from their soulfulness in the collection's totality. A very-well realized collection to be sure, and a great adventure.

Very glad to own these three CDs, and I will be buying the fourth one as soon as it comes out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Love the show... not so sure about this soundtrack, January 6, 2010

I am a Mad Men fiend. My friends and I adore this show and every time I watch it, I want to smoke too much, dress in awesome vintage and of course, sip bourbon at work :) When i first put it on, I was into it. The first half of the soundtrack definitely established a fun mood, but then it seems to just tank towards the end. I can't say I am a fan of the extended theme song either. I still put it on in the background, but it's only after I've listened to other CDs that I liked better. If I had to do it over, I'd probably jsut buy a few of the tracks digitally instead of investing in the whole shabang.

I really enjoy the show Mad Men. Partly due to the groovy music. This CD captures the mood of the show and makes you want to light up and sip a cocktail.
