This review is from: Mad Scientist Hall of Fame: Muwahahahaha! (Paperback)
Daniel Wilson, author of How To Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion, How to Build a Robot Army: Tips on Defending Planet Earth Against Alien Invaders, Ninjas, and Zombies, and Where's My Jetpack?: A Guide to the Amazing Science Fiction Future that Never Arrived joins forces with psychologist Anna Long to present the first round inductions of the Mad Scientist Hall of Fame! Using both real people and fiction characters, the authors take us on a fun filled romp covering the deranged minds of some stand out characters.
From the real world we see Soviet 'biologist' Trofim Lysenko, high flying and deep diving Auguste Piccard, wacky alien communicating Nikola Tesla, Dr Stanley Milgram, Sidney Gottlieb, Madame Curie, explosives technician Jack Parsons (and his connection with L Ron Hubbard), coax cable inventor Oliver Heaviside, and tv inventor Philo Farnsworth. Fictional characters include Dr Evil, Dr Julius No, Professor Calculus (from Tintin, and he's based off Auguste Piccard), Captain Nemo, Lex Luthor, Dr Moreau, Victor Frankenstein, Seth Brundle (The Fly), Dr Jeckyll (and Mr Hyde), and Futurama's Hubert J Farnsworth. The recaps of these characters, both real and fictional are educational and trivia filled. My only complaint is the absence of Doc Brown of 'Back to the Future' fame. If you have read brainy robot guy Wilson's other books, be sure and read this one. Totally capable of having a sequal to include other mad scientists (or even just really angry ones). |
