1.0 out of 5 stars This is not the one you want - DON'T BUY IT!!!!!

I was so disappointed when, after waiting weeks for the package, I played this CD and discovered the first cut to be little more than a cartoonish adulteration of the original piece from the Darko movie. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, the video CD-ROM isn't recognized by my equipment. I tried it on several other machines and the video never even registered as being there. Obviously I'm returning it, but I wish someone had come right out and warned me off of this purchase, so I wouldn't have to go through all the trouble of sending it back.

So, for all of you who are wondering if this item is worth the money, the answer is "No!" Buy the soundtrack and the DVD instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars do not like the faster version at all--not what I wanted, April 5, 2004

This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
This is not the soft haunting version that I heard played on the radio. It is a techno/disco type which except for the vocals, bears little resemblance to the pleasable music I was expecting. What a waste of money!! Unlikely I will ever listen to this CD again.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 very different songs..., January 1, 2004
This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
First track (Mad World, GrayedOut Mix):
This one sounds, from the beginning, like a traditional, cr***y, techno track; i immediately regretted buying the single. BUT!! Then i decided to bother to listen to it, and was quite suprised. It was actually very good! I'm kind-of a fan of techno though; that's why i skipped it when i heard the start: it sounded like any other techno song. But then the Mad World tune kicks in, the lyrics start (at a much faster pace)... it's sad, but sad like techno music can be sad (Sad as in depresing, not crap). It's also by Andy Gray, the guy who remixed KoRn's single 'Did My Time' (GrayedOut Remix), although, it doesn't sound very similar. If you like Did My Time (Rmx) though, you're sure to love this.

Second track (Artifact & Living):
This is a moving instrumental track that sets the scene for the movie. It's also way too short. I say this because i play it over and over; it's that good. It's a slow, easy, sad, and absolutely beatutiful piece of music. If it weren't for the fact that it's less than 3 minutes long, it would be one of my favourite pieces of movie score music. Shame, really.

Video track:
I haven't seen this yet, so i'll say nothing. Based on the original track though, and Donnie Darko trailers, I'd think this to be as great as Mad World is.

The CD:
Neither of these two tracks are anything at all the original Mad World track; they both set off in completely different directions, so don't expect to hear the same stuff as was on CD1 here. The GrayedOut remix of Mad World is fast-paced keeping Jules' vocal magic, still managing to head in the right direction, despite being a techno tune. The second track is magnificent, but still should be a little bit longer. So, is this CD $*Value For Money?*$ At $12, i'd say... a definate NO WAY! I got this single for £3, which is a fair price for it. If you want to hear Andy Gray's remix, buy it second-hand. If you want more Michael Andrews, get the Donnie Darko Soundtrack for roughly the same price. But, if you liked Jules' & Andrew's Mad World, this really isn't right for you. Unless you just want the video track, inwhich case, download it from a P2P prgram like KaZaA, but don't waste 12 bucks on this. My final verdict is: Two good tracks, but too expensive at $12. If you can get it cheaper, buy it now, but if not, don't even consider it.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Stinks!, March 18, 2006
This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
I received this terrible CD (the Tears for Fears version) today and I was first disappointed and then angry! I wasn't aware this is a two CD set until the label on the CD I received indicated as much. The company, of course, sent me the 2nd CD and not the one I requested which was the Gary Jules version (the slower version and it was probably because it was out of stock). It is not worth the money and my suggestion is to not order this mess!

1.0 out of 5 stars what a disappointment, December 30, 2006
This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
If there was a minus 0 for the rating I would select that!
Wish I'd read the reviews and saved myself a disappointing Christmas gift for my husband...this is blatent false representation of the track/song one would expect.
I guess it pays to read the fine print/reviews on Amazon CD purchases!
Not worth the hassle of a return but Amazon, I hope you're listening...you have quite a few disgruntled customers on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Travesty, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
If you like the version of the song at the end of Donnie Darko, you will hate the dance remix on this CD. There is a video (crappy) for the version from the movie, and watching that with your eyes closed is the only pleasant thing to do with this CD single.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mad Mad CD, June 7, 2007

Buy this CD if you like dance/club music. There's only 2 tracks you can listen to in your car, but the dance version is worth it. Then pop the CD into your computer... the video is cool.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's A Remix!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Mad World 2 (Audio CD)
This cd has a remix of "Mad World". The original can only be played as a music video on your computer. If you want the original version buy the Donnie Darko soundtrack.

This is the part 2 of a now out of print limited edition UK CD single set. I saw Donnie Darko - The Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition) for the first time over the summer and it quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time. One of the reasons it stuck with me so well was because of the song played at the end of the movie, "Mad World" by Gary Jules & Michael Andrews. It is one of the rare occurrence where the cover (this song was originally by Tears for Fears) was better than the original. The original didn't do much for me, but the version by Andrews & Jules is too breathtaking for words. Any who, I was doing research on the song and found that it went #1 in the UK. That was when it dawned on me: There's probably a CD Single that released. (I am a collector of CD singles).

I found this UK 2 Single set. The other CD, Mad World Pt.1 included the original from the movie, another song by Gary Jules, and then a version of Mad World with added percussion. The next CD (this one) included a club mix and a track from the Donnie Darko score, as well as a music video. Considering I already had the original as it was a bonus track on the Donnie Darko score CD and I'm a huge fan of club remixes, I ordered a used copy of part 2.

The remix is great. Now, I'm one of those people who argue that sometimes that a remix CAN out-due an original. This is not the case. The soundtrack version is still far superior. But this techno-styled mix is great nonetheless. The song from the score (The Artifact & Living) is amazing as well. The video is boring and nothing special. That said, fans of club music will enjoy this single, but fans of the original won't necessarily (as you can tell from the other reviews). So be sure and use the preview feature, or look up the remix on YouTube before ordering.

Track Listing
1. Mad World (Grayed Out Club Mix) - 6:45
2. The Artifact & Living (from the "Donnie Darko" score) - 2:27
3. Mad World (Enhanced Music Video) - 3:23
