Mia, younger sister of Angela DeNero in Criswell's
The Trials of Angela (2002), has finally found a career that suits her: bodyguard. Unfortunately no one hires her until Nick Caruso, a nerdy author, requests her services. But Nick is actually an FBI agent eager to use Mia and her family connections to investigate a Mafia connection in Baltimore's Little Italy. She is so thrilled about finally getting a client that she doesn't check out Nick's story and even agrees to let him move in with her. It's Mia's brother-in-law, Alfredo, Nick is after, but, in a typically zany Criswell twist, Alfredo, a used-car dealer, is only connected to the Mob in his fantasies. Meanwhile Mia proves to be an excellent bodyguard, impressing her family and Nick, although he had counted on her ineptness. A perennial loner, he loses his heart to the plucky Mia but must maintain his cover to complete his mission. Once again the irrepressible Criswell provides readers with a funny and heartwarming story.
