4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, not bad, July 17, 2006

I got this lightgun for two reasons. One of them is House of the Dead 3. The other is, since I have a modded xbox, MAME. This gun is great for house of the dead - it's far better than using the joystick. However, I had some calibration issues. Maybe it's my TV, maybe it's the gun, I'm not sure. It aims allright, but the movement definatly is not 'silky smooth'. Now, in MAME, this is a different story. I have no experience with other lightguns, so again, I don't know if it's only this one. While I got the gun to work fine in MAME, it simply isn't accurate enough. The cursor jumps all over the place, and you simply can't aim properly. This is especially bad in games like Police Trainer, where you need to be able to accuratly hit targets - the cursor jumps from time to time.

The gun itself is nice. It has a reload button on the handle, which I never used as I'm used to "shooting offscreen" from the arcades. The button is kinda strange feeling if you're used to real guns. If you're lazy (or just want to mow down zombies) it has an auto-fire, burst-fire, and shotgun mode.

I'm sure I would rate this higher if the xbox had more of a library of games to play, but House of the Dead 3 is worth it, as cheap as these guns are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light Gun, June 25, 2006

This light gun is solid and accurate. I play House the Dead 3 on my Xbox for which this light gun enhances the gameplay by 10 fold versus the joystick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 1, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MadCatz 4588 Light Blaster (Video Game)
This device works very well on "tube-type" televisions but does not work on the newer LCD and Plasma screen TV's. Luckily the remote has the ability to use the buttons and joystick, but the light feature is not capable of working. This has to do with how the different types of TV's actually work. The "tube-type" TV's are continually scanning their pixels on the screen and refreshing them. The LCD and plasma screens turn on the pixel and do not turn them off until there is a change. The light gun is looking for the continual "blink" of the pixels to figure out where it is being aimed. I have been forced to hook my game system up to an old TV so this remote will work well, thus I am sadly disappointed that I can't use the system in the main living room and have to play in a separate bedroom that still has the older type of TV.
