Jeff Hanson returns in 2008 with this "Madam Owl" being his 3rd artistic offering which hits the mark and continues in the tradition of his 2nd marvelous self titled CD but with a musical difference. Subtle arrangements of embellished strings and horns only give credence to his artistic ambiance of melody and heartfelt lyrics.
As I've stated in previous reviews of Jeff's work, his vocals bring to mind the best moments of Emitt Rhodes and Michael Brown (Left Bank) while maintaining a style all his own. Every offering on "Madam Owl" is a storyboard of wonder and recommended to those seeking a unique listening experience.

Not Novelty,

Im noticing that although Hanson has the potential to be a novelty act because of his novel voice (and his publicity is often billing him that way), his songwriting and melodies would be enjoyable with anyone singing. Im definitely going to go see him when he plays locally in order to develop a better-informed opinion. Right now upon first listen, I say take a chance on this guy!
