4.0 out of 5 stars Selected Ladies of Fashion, May 3, 2005
By
This review is from: Madame Alexander's Ladies of Fashion (Hardcover)
This book is more concerned with the larger ladies of fashion like Cissy (very good photos of costumes with notes about what costume piece is missing from photo), Elise, and the 21" Portrait dolls of the 1960s. There are a few earlier fifties dolls shown, like the Coronation and Godey dolls with Margaret and Maggie faces. If you are looking for information on the smaller fashion ladies, Lissy or Cissette, it is not so helpful. Cissette is included just ocassionally, as a "shadow" doll to the larger Portraits. There is only one real photo of Lissy used to show the Lissy face. Another photo is labelled Lissy but is actually of Cissy. A third photo labelled Lissy is a Coco! No Nancy Drew face portraits. There are good photos of Jacqueline costumes and Shari Lewis costumes which I have seldom seen. At the time this book was published only six First Ladies were released, so only the first six are shown. In conclusion, I would call this book Larger Ladies of Fashion from the fifties and sixties. But if 21" Portraits or Cissys are your love, WOW!
