4.0 out of 5 stars A deep look at one whose heart truly seeks God, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Madame Guyon (Women of Faith (Bethany House)) (Paperback)
I found this book to be a wonderful condensed version of what I believe was an amazingly full life of trials and tribulations that were lived through with great inner victory found in a personal daily relationship with Jesus Christ. I commend the author for choosing to reveal to this generation this great Woman of Faith who fought the good fight yet had such immense sorrow in her outer life, but found such peace by focusing on her inner life by her constant communion with her Lord. The descriptions of how Jeane Guyon shared her faith in a time and a culture that was not tolerant to women having an outward influence on society or any voice in religion, gives hope for many who today feel that they don't have a median or a voice to express their faith in their culture or current life circumstance. This woman persevered and lived her faith in all of the circumstances of her life, good or bad. Since I have found out through this book, that a woman such as Jeane Guyon actually existed so many years ago, it has opened up new opportunities for me to explore the writings of Jeane Guyon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly remarkable biography of a seeker of God, December 6, 2001
This review is from: Madame Guyon (Women of Faith (Bethany House)) (Paperback)
Madame Guyon had a strong Catholic background. As such, she sometimes used or rather misused the statue of Jesus. She also did not have as clear a view of the church as some of us do today.

However, don't let her background hold you back from taking a closer look at her life. You will find her character, prayer life, trials and dealing with the self so outstanding and striking that they speak to you with great immediacy. Her spiritual experience is way advanced compared to her Catholic contemporaries. Hers was a reaction to the deadness of religion during her time.

The words of this woman of faith will force you to re-examine your life in the context of your relationship with and devotion to God.

Furthermore, the writing is swift, moving and true. The line of thought flows unhindered and appeals both to soul and spirit.

This is surely one of the best biographies I've read and I absolutely recommend it to any reader.
