Not the "Madden 2006 Missing Manual", August 25, 2005
This review is from: Madden NFL 2006 (Prima Official Game Guide) (Paperback)
The "manual" included with the game itself is pathetic, even by current game standards, barely covering what the buttons do and precious little else. For people who have played all the previous Maddens, this might not be a big deal, but for a newbie, like myself, almost everything is undocumented.
Unfortunately (from my perspective), the Prima guide doesn't rectify this, only sketchily outlining the game's subsystems as opposed to an exhaustive "Here's all the stuff you can do on this screen" description. Which may be a good thing if you're an experienced Madden player and don't want or need a rehash of stuff you already know.
The book does have a lot of useful information, more on strategy and the year's specific players and teams (along with a little too much "filler" on teams' real-life NFL history.) I don't regret buying it, but I think there'd be room for Prima to make two books - one, that'd be a sort of "Madden for Dummies," is the one I really would like to buy, and another, more hardcore, would expand on the gameplay strategy in this book.

A necessary addition to your Madden game., September 23, 2005
This review is from: Madden NFL 2006 (Prima Official Game Guide) (Paperback)
This years Prima guide is better than ever before. It includes the core pieces from last years one and is updated with the additions to this years game. Team reviews are 5 pages for this year and includes everything you would would want to setup your offence and defence, including audibles, line shifts, formation shifts etc.
The last two pages also include a list of the keys and game pad buttons needed to operate the various functions within the game, a list that is suprisingly missing from the game itself.
Included is a Fastasy draft guide as well which you may or may not find useful. I thought that it's tips were solid. All up a necessary purchase to get the best out of the deep game that Madden is. Highly recommended purchase.
Also great and very useful is the breakdown of player stats in the back. Great for doing trades or for fantasy draft.

Touchdown!!!, May 13, 2007
This review is from: Madden NFL 2006 (Prima Official Game Guide) (Paperback)
Whenever it comes to video games we always can think of a brand name that has withstood the test of time. That has been the extreme case with football on video games. Now, whenever football has been made into video games, we only think of Madden. Since 2006, the NFL franchised video game, has been the only football game released on the video game consoles. This strategy guide for the last Madden edition, Madden '06, is a simple and convient cover and reflects the stats, and skills of each of the teams from the New York Jets, all the way to the San Francisco 49ers. The book also give a brief cover of how to handle plays, and gives details on how to play offense and defense on the major consoles like the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360. Although the emphasis is now on Madden '07, you can still find the game used in many stores, but they won't have the instructions. With this guide Prima has made, it will help you score a touchdown that'll make anyone happy. I really recommend this book.
