2.0 out of 5 stars Madden2000
I thought Madden 2000 was really confusing. The controls are hard. This game is horrible for people who don't like football video games or who have never played them.

I have been playing the various versions of Madden football for several years, and I have to say that of all the enhancments they have made, I enjoy the Franchise mode the most. Yes, it takes patience to get through 15 or 30 years worth of games, but the management aspect makes it worth it. And unlike Madden 99, the latest version includes the new Browns franchise in regular league play, so you can truly build a franchise from the ground up. The ability to do muti-player and draft pick trades is also a big plus. The cpu does tend to take over if you are beating an opponant badly, which is annoying. Giving up a huge play that you have stopped consistantly all game on 3rd or 4th and long can be frustrating, even if you are winning by 42 points it can make you scream. And, because of licensing conflicts with the NFLPA, there are players named DL No. 42, instead of Jevon Kearse, which takes away from the over all realism of the game, but over all, Madden 2K is a great game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madden great - but manual claims features that aren't there, January 4, 2000

I have been playing Madden footballs ever since they first came out for the Apple IIe back in the late 1980's.

Needless to say I am quite an expert how the new features compare.

Each year Madden continues to amaze me with features, graphics and gameplay.

I have played a variety of other football games for N64 such as NFL Blitz and NFL Quarterback Club 1999 and 2000 and I must say that Madden is by FAR the superior gaming system. Quarterback club has better graphics, but the game play is pathetic and almost impossible to play.

NFL Blitz is more arcade style and I didn't find it be realistic for the purpose of a true simulation.

Madden does have a few problems:

(1) the manual that comes with the game indicates that you can create a player, and in fact one of the madden challenges involves creating a player and playing a game. I however, have not found the menu anywhere in the game that allows you to edit/create a player. I have checked Easports.com and only the playstation version appears to be able to do that. It would seem to me that they should have printed two manuals then (one for N64 and one for playstation).

(2) Every player has arms that are like Hulk Hogan. I think that is crazy.

(3) The sounds of the crowd of are terrible and over the course of the 15 minute/quarter game tends to give a headache.

Despite my criticism, this game is still the best by far of all other N64 football games available!

There are so many different games in this one game. But for me the most fun was the franchise mode. It was the best franchise mode i have ever seen in any game. The value of this game is priceless, because its not one of those games that you buy and play once. Everytime you play its different. If it lasts me that long ill play for the rest of my life

This Madden improves yet again on the previous version. Game play is better and more realistic. Finally you can run effectively between the tackles on a video football game. Passing is still tough as players are always double-teamed. The Franchise mode allows you to pilot a team for many years, with drafts, re-signing of players in the off-season, and many more features. The only feature they left off this year is the Fantasy Draft. It was included in Madden '99, but misteriously disappeared from this year. Overall, a very good and realistic football game.

The game is one of the best football games that I have ever played. It has a huge play book, tons of great codes, all the teams, great moves, and you can play it for hours on end. If you are in search for a football game this one is the one because of how realistic it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, July 29, 2001
This review is from: Madden NFL 2000 (Game Cartridge)
This is a good football game, but the comments madden makes during game play repeat a lot and the menus are though to figure out... but its a good game overall but one bad thing is tht the rosters are old, and like in other sports games some players dont want to be identified...like on the titans, they have "Defensive Back #35" instead of strong saftey perry phenix.....and madden never mentions the players names, he only uses number like he says, "number 9 threw that right on the money"

...I already enjoy this game. It's not quite as smooth as I would like, and each player, even the skinny wide receivers, looks like a professional body-builder, but overall, the graphics are excellent.

I've played many versions of video game football, starting with the old Atari 2600, and have been impressed each year with the newest and latest game systems.

The only problem I have with the game is that it is difficult to learn easily. I have found also that running is so ridiculously easy when you have a speedy back, even when you run the same play over and over. The passing game, meanwhile, is difficult to manage for a novice, and even when I was using the NFC All-Pro team, I found it hard to make completions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Create a player - issue, March 9, 2000

The gamer for Iowa is correct, you can create a player. But only in franchise mode. When I wrote my first review I had not started franchise mode.

Just a quick suggestion on creating a player.

You have the ability to make the player the best player in the league (i.e., 100 overall rating).

However, just because you create doesn't automatically place him on your roster. You have to bid for him in the free agency pool.

I made the mistake of making a super player and I didn't have enough room under the salary cap to hire him without cutting some of my other stars and one of computer teams signed him. Of course I had to turn the power off and go back to the last saved spot to get it right.

My advice is wait until one of your most expensive stars in retiring and then create the player. That way you can afford to hire your new player.

Good gaming!

This game is probably the best foot ball game on the market at the moment. It has a wide variety of options including create a player, trades, free agency and much more. It has fabulous play control and good graphics. It may not be perfect in every way, but then again, in this day and age, what is? This is a great game for all you Madden fans, or those who just want to pick up a controller and be an armchair quarterback.

The best part of this game is the franchise mode. It allows you to draft rookies and watch them imrove, it makes you haggle with free agents to get them on your team, and you can also get fired if your team doesn't win enough. The game does have a create a player on it by the way. The graphics are not the best, but they are pretty good with a game enhancer. The gameplay is pretty good, and sound could be better. A bad part of this game is they took out the fantasy draft mode. (I think)
