EA Sports has added some new playability features, such as collectable Madden Cards for fulfilling certain tasks in the game. The Madden Cards can be traded with friends, using the Nintendo 64 memory card, and can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and legendary NFL teams. The new two-minute drill feature allows up to 10 players to compete for the highest score.
But Madden NFL 2001does have some trouble in a couple of areas. The CPU has a problem with clock management when it is behind with time running out; sometimes it will fail to call a time-out and let the clock expire at the half or at the end of the game. Madden himself sounds a little run down in this game as he only has a few phrases and he says them over and over and over. The crowd noise and the cheers are not very well done and can get annoying.
Despite its few flaws, pound for pound this is the best NFL football title ever made for the Nintendo 64. --Todd Mowatt

Madden does it again,
By A Customer
This review is from: Madden NFL 2001 [E] (Video Game)
I went out and bought QBC 2001 the other day and just sold it in on online auction.. Picked up Madden 2001 this morning and I LOVE IT. Before this I have been playing Madden 99 and there is a world of difference. Graphics are sharp, commentary is MUCH better, running game is a lot easier. And, the game still has the same 'Madden' controls that havent changed with time.. It makes playing a lot easier if you have played a Madden game before this one. From the few football games available on the N64, Madden is still tops. Don't waste your time with the others.

The Hottest Football Game,
By A Customer
This review is from: Madden NFL 2001 [E] (Video Game)
I would have to say that Madden NFL 2001 is one of the hottest games out there when it comes to crunch time smack and pop play. The graphics on this game are near the top of the line and the new sound effects during the game are hot. I like the style and attitude of the football players on the field is awesome. I would reccomend this game if you are a 100% football fan and want to see and hear the best of the NFL, this game is for you.

Best Madden on N64,
By Kevin Moran (Raleigh, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Madden NFL 2001 [E] (Video Game)
Madden 2001 is the best football game on N64. The graphics are improved, the animation is smooth, and play control is nice. There are some nice added features, like finally the ability to pull the ball down as the QB and run if no one is open or if your QB is in trouble. The computer seems to finally call penalties, which makes it more realistic. The Madden commentary is still terrible(why doesn't EA take a hint?). Also, you can modify the computer AI, making them run/pass more, and set the kind of playcalling(aggressive, conservative, normal). However, even if you set the game to mostly run, the CPU still seems very pass-happy, no matter what team they are. Oh yeah, and you will get burned if you don't put major pressure on the QB, even if you have an all-star secondary. Despite the horrible commentary and the strange AI, this is still a very, very solid game, and I would tell any football fan to buy it since QB Club stinks, and Blitz is just for casual fans. So go out and buy this!
