5.0 out of 5 stars Madden NFL 2002 - "It's In The Game"
Yeah, okay, so that stands true for all EA Sports games, but this one truly does have it all. Once again, the Madden product has taken center stage as the best football game of the year.

While I have yet to be disappointed by any of the Madden games, this year's addition is a better, tweaked up version of 2001. The gameplay is, without a doubt, a lot smoother, not to...

1.0 out of 5 stars My first Madden disappointment
I can only speak for the PS1 version of Madden 2k2, but the first thing I can say is, SAVE YOUR MONEY.
The playability of this version is awful and hardly realistic. The poorest NFL Europe quarterback could put Brett Favre or Joe Montana to shame for instance. Defensive backs have found a new talent of morphing from one part of the field to the next. Lastly for...

Yeah, okay, so that stands true for all EA Sports games, but this one truly does have it all. Once again, the Madden product has taken center stage as the best football game of the year.

While I have yet to be disappointed by any of the Madden games, this year's addition is a better, tweaked up version of 2001. The gameplay is, without a doubt, a lot smoother, not to mention the "Mulligan" or "Do-Over" option. The graphics are still awesome right down to the elbow pads and chunks of torn up grass on the field.

MADDEN NFL 2002 definately seems to be a lot more realistic this year. Where it has always been the most realistic football game on the market, this year's product is much more accurate as far as game conditions and the running of plays. You must stratagize a lot more, as it is no longer just a shoot-out. On top of that, the kicking aspect definately has taken a step up, no pun inteded. Careful consideration of angles, weather, and leg strength have to be taken into consideration.

Again the sound could be a little better, and the commentary repeats itself often, but it more than made up for with the enhanced player management and superior look of the game. This is an outstanding game with an excellent replay factor. MADDEN NFL 2002 is, by far, the best football game available for the Sony Play Station.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madden 2002 = GOOD, October 30, 2001

Ive played other football games on the PSX but this one is by far the best one. Many claim that this is the same as Madden 2001 but as an avid player Ill tell you theyre wrong. Dont worry about the music, I dont pay any attention to it, however the game itself looks the same as Madden 2001 however little anoying things from 2001 have been corrected e.g. the receiving and intercepting is alot more realistic, there are better plays, and the QB gets the ball of quicker and more accurately. If you already have 2001 and are strapped for cash, dont buy this; but if you dont have either version, this one is a sure thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game A Lot Of Potential, October 18, 2001

I dont know what other Madden players are saying but Madden 2002 is at its best on ps one. There are great playable modes and a great sound track to go along with the game. I have been playing madden ever since it was first on Sega Genises. Im telling you that you cant ge any better than this for playstation. If you dont believe me try the game out for your self and if you dont like it return it but after you play it I dont think that your gonna want to give that game back. This game is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Armchair quarterbacking at it's finest., December 22, 2001
This review is from: Madden NFL 2002 (Video Game)
I love the Madden series because it has thrills for the cerebral wannabe coach in me, the stomping cruising wannabe athlete in me and also the button pushing video game playing me. I upgraded to this version from Madden 2000 and I must say that the improvements were well worth the money. The coach mode is much better, now all of the coaches have names and records in the franchise mode, not just the human players (I loved it when Shanahan got fired and I took his job as the Bronco's head man). The play action is much more realistic and the thought factor is more present when calling and running plays. The card idea is much better than the point options were in 2000 and the custom profiles have so many more options such as having three playbooks to choose from before a game. I can't say whether it's worth the price to upgrade from the 2001 edition because I haven't played it, but if you don't own any madden games from this millenium I can definitly say that this one is a must have.

Lastly for actual game playing is the AI is hardly balanced. For lack of a better term, many defenses have become psychic. Graphics were not upgraded since the last season, nor were the stats on 90% of the players from the prior edition. When the music (which was poorly selected) was integrated into the program, it was done in such a sloppy fashion that you can almost hear a techie pushing a repeat button, only to make the CD skip. As a programmer myself, I would have been humilated to see my name in the credits. Do yourself a favor if you are a die hard Madden player, try out the competition this season. It's obvious that EA Sports isn't serious about PS1 any longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok But EA got very lazy on this one, December 12, 2001

I rented this game at the video store and couldn't wait to play it. I got it goin and I saw no difference in the game from a year ago with the exception of up-dated rosters. I personally would play 2001 over 2002 any day of the week. However the gameplay was not bad and I did have fun playing it... For about an hour. Once you get the hang of it it becomes so boring and easy even on the most difficult level. Even though all this is true this is probably the best football game on the playstation. Us dedicated PS1 players are now inferior to those with PS2.

I love madden 2002, its a lot like 2001 but has much smoother gameplay. The sound still leaves something to be desired, but the player management is better than ever.

I bought this game because of all the hype with it, I love it, but it does have a coupel of flaws, 1, Player Introductions would be a nice addition to this game and also the commentary does repeat itself, but overall it is a nice game for the PSone, the graphics are better, and the trash talking the players say to one another is pretty funny. I recommend this game for any football gamer out there, I can't wait until 2003 comes out.
