A good handheld football game,
By A Customer
This review is from: Madden NFL 2004 (Video Game)
This is a good football game. I'll give you both the good points and the bad points.Good Points- You can play any team, and can either go with the traditional way of controlling whoever has the ball or controlling just one player per play. Either way is fun for me. The teams are updated, and almost all roster changes have been made. You can create a player in any position, and you can trade players from one team to another. I have created a kind of "ultimate" team composed of several super-stars. Bad Points- Graphics not as good as with a big system, but that's to be expected. The team logos aren't in the middle of the field, just the NFL logo, but their names are in the end zone. It can get a little easy once you get the hang of it, but I have yet to try the higher difficulty level, which should change that. Overall, this is a good game. I would recommend it to anyone who likes football games.

Madden 2004 Gameboy may take some time to enjoy...,

Madden 2004 is basically a port of the old school Madden game from the old Nintendo NES (with the sprite graphics as oppose to the 3d Graphics from the other more powerful systems like Playstation 2, Xbox, etc.)Here are a couple of things that bother me about it. First off, you have to pretty much know your football such as the difference between a 4-3 defense and a Nickel defense, etc. A casual fan of football might not understand these things and therefore he (or she) will be at a disadvantage (the manual does not explain football concepts). Also, it took me awhile to figure out that the longer you hold down a button, the faster the pass will be. There was no mention of this in the manual. A small child that buys this game may be a little overwelmed at all the controls. So all in all, the problems I have with the game are mostly in the presentation. Now having said that, the gameplay is actually quite good. I've heard complaints that you can't run the ball very well but I had no such problem. It may take awhile to actually win some games but once you are over the learning curve, its fun!

Stats are kind of what makes football games fun,

Madden 2004 for the GBA is worthless. Which is sad, because the gameplay is actually quite good, in my opinion. The problem is that the way it handles stats is absolutely embarrassing. EA should be ashamed. A couple examples. Today I went for around 200 yards on the ground with Michael Vick. His stats not only didn't show up in the in-game stats, but didn't show up in the season stats. Now, how hard would it be to track rushing yardage for EVERY player? Tecmo Super Bowl could do this back in like 1991. Why can't Madden 2004? It's especially silly when you consider that the cover features Michael Vick and he's known for being versatile and exciting. There's nothing versatile and exciting, however, about rushing for 200, passing for 300 and only getting credited for the 300. The stupidest part is that in the process I apparantly broke the team rushing record (pretty cool, I thought) but the stats for the individuals are actually "on the books". Not only were Vick's yards not recorded, but they somehow missed keeping track of the stats for my running back who went for 130 as well. Really strange. Also, in the same game I returned a punt for 60 yards by someone not designated as a punt returner (one of my up men) and it didn't record that either. In short, if you care at all about statistics when you play a sports game, stay away from Madden 2004. It's pathetic. EA should just end the sharade and cease releasing games for the Gameboy Advance. At least then maybe someone would feel motivated to fill the gap and give us a rehash of Tecmo Super Bowl or something worth playing.Preston

Madden 2004 is not a good game. The graphics stink, the gameplay is way too easy, the sound stinks, and the manual tells you squat about the game. I am telling you, do NOT buy this game. It is a rip off!!!!!

My son is seven and just got his first game boy system for Christmas. He received a few games with it- Madden 2004 and a Mario game. He plays the Madden game over and over. I was worried about it being too hard or that he might not think it was fun. (He tends to like racing games, and this was totally different). But I decided to give it a try since he had just had his first experience with rec league football. In his words, "It might be hard for kids under 7 years old. I like it so much that I play it everyday and every minute. My favorite part is getting a touchdown and winning. I also like the song because it is cool!"

the abyss,

This review is from: Madden NFL 2004 (Video Game)
This was the worst sports game ive ever played.I can deal with sub-par graphics.I can deal with the fact that the plays are hard to see.But i couldnt take poor controls, the inability to save your game (not all of us are able to spend hours playing games) and the stupid create-a-player "feature",although ive never liked the unlimited attributes you can give in the pc version-kind of takes the fun out of it.i always like NHL 95 because you were limited to an over all total to give your created players.anyways if you must buy this game, buy it used then you wont be as upset when you find out how lame this is.

Play Madden '92,

This game is garbage, I made a huge mistake of purchasing this product. I have been playing Madden since '92 and these graphics are worse than the old ones. Running the ball is vitually impossible and the WR's are hard to see weather they are open or not. The play control lacks in all spectrums of playability. It just felt like playing in a box with no air. Stick with PS2, X-Box and Gamecube versions. I hope EA puts more effort into producing a good hand held product for it's 2005 release.

The best MADDEN GAME FOR GBA,
By K-Bauer "777rak" (Escondido Ca.) - See all my reviews

This game is alot better the 2003. First the camera view is above but when is the snap is on it is down below. The view is like you a player in this game. It does have the new players the teams drafted. I wish that when you see where the game is playing they not only tell you what city it is in , but what the stadium is called. With this new one if you have a Game Cube you can get Madden cards. Well I hope this review helped. By the way my favorite team is the Houston Texans

i will be the first to say that madden 2004 is going to be the greatest game ever made. just by looking at the sceensbots you can just tell it will be better then madden 2003. it has better graphics, updated rosters and has all the action you would expext from a madden game. When it comes out, i will be the first in line to grab this excellent game.
