4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but limited April 8, 2011
Format:Video Game
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First off, I'm not even close to a hardcore Madden fan. I am an NFL fan, but I play Madden as more of a casual player. I say that because some things that are dealbreakers to hardcore fans aren't much of a factor for me. This is not a deep game. Customization is almost nonexistant, and there's no Franchise mode. There's also no multiplayer, which is more important. In normal 11-on-11 games, there is often too much going on for the small screen when viewed in 3D mode.

5-on-5, however, is just plain fun. This is not a game to play for hours. For me, this is a game to pick up and spend 30 minutes playing a quick game or two. If your standards are much higher than that, you might want to wait for a future iteration of the franchise. In Pro difficulty, the game is super easy, so I found myself turning up the difficulty far quicker than I normally do.

Graphics are great for a handheld console. 3D doesn't add much more than a touch of depth, and there were a couple times when, in the process of quickly hitting a button to throw a pass, I moved the 3DS out of the optimal viewing angle and couldn't see what was going on for a moment. If you tend to move around more than a little when playing, go ahead and turn the 3D off.

The game is a strong 4 stars to me, a casual Madden player. If multiplayer or franchise was more important to me, it would be a weak 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plays All the Time February 21, 2012
By Mel04
Format:Video Game
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I got this game for my son's 6th birthday. Not knowing much about it I was afraid it might have been a bit too difficult for him but he loves football so I thought I'd give it a chance anyway and I'm so glad. He loves it, plays it all the time and really caught on to it fast.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quarter back is slow to run December 22, 2012
By John
Format:Video Game
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
When you are quarter back on a play you can't run in the pocket. Unlike the other maddens where you can press a button to run. You only get one franchise season then you need to start over. It has old rosters but the overall gameplay was good. But there is no online multi player whatsoever.

This is a great game, the game play is best on the 3DS XL. Ive played it several times since the purchase and I'm completly happy. I'm not sure EA can top this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great (If you know its a handheld!) November 7, 2012
Format:Video Game|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is a lot of fun if you purchase it knowing its a handheld version of Madden. What that means is it is a stripped down game! IT is however a lot of fun and a great time killer.. The game has season mode and quicklay but no franchise mode.. THe graphics are great!! A lot of reviews have said it has an outdated roster.. THat is true but not maddens fault.. This is a 2012 version of this game meaning the "lockout" affected the rosters.. The big console versions received updates once the lockout was over.. I guess this is not possible on the DS..

Besides that it is a great time killer and I would recommend it to any sport or football fan

4.0 out of 5 stars on rails NFL football americano September 29, 2011
By P. Webb
Format:Video Game
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Overall the 3D is good here and helps with reading plays, the on the fly route switching and ability to make defensive assignment changes really utilize the touch screen effectively. Almost everything you would want from a portable Madden is here and yes the included 5-5 game is fun but it needed more spice like the old Blitz titles, this one just feels like the main game on a short field with no field goals and limited plays. One big complaint is the QBing feels very "on rails" there is an inorganic feeling when trying to break out of the pocket and make something happen,(sluggish)with a repetitive passing system. The play now mode is where I will be relegated to playing as I don't feel like playing as one team only for a season for now, at least the game stores some stats for my profile. I noticed that the game is way easy on PRO and veterans who pick up the controls will quickly being going all-pro or Madden level in the options which you will find makes the game faster and more realistic to some degree. The rosters are fleshed out(Joe Webb)Vikings etc., and you get quality images of players. You can manage teams to be somewhat accurate to the latest QB trades and free agency drops but rookies are missing and ultimately this game can't be roster updated EVER, so no Cam Newton etc.. The commentary is surprisingly good for a handheld and the sfx are crisp as are the graphics (only in 3D however). This game is perfect to spend some time with during commercial breaks on Sundays but not much else. 3&1/2 stars.
