Gallagher wants to talk to you about style. Yeah, the sweaty guy on roller skates with the one-of-a-kind "bowling ball wearing a hula skirt" hairdo. Might seem like an odd topic coming from the man who uses humor as a blunt instrument (and not just when he's wailing a watermelon with his Sledge-O-Matic), but that's just what you get in this hour-long stand-up piece from 1983.

You see, for comedy's prop master extraordinaire, style isn't so much about finesse as it is about flair. Flair he's got in spades, as long as you're willing to call stupid hats and a trampoline disguised as a huge couch flair. The bits travel well-worn paths through mating and parenthood, and the material does often betray its age (the fact that National Enquirer headlines are stupid isn't exactly revolutionary comedy). However, what ultimately makes Gallagher giggle-worthy isn't the material itself, but the zeal with which he swings for the big laugh. Hammer in hand or not, the man's got style. --Bob Michaels

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!!!, February 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maddest [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this "back in the day" when it was new....left it with my "Ex" along with every material thing we had accumulated over 14 years together since I knew I would be able to afford to buy anything I wanted within a short period of freedom and she would likely always be poor........although I think she may now have a control-freak/leech of a husband that keeps her finances in line......he wont even let her answer the phone let alone touch any of their money......and she makes plenty of money for the both of them since I supported her through school and helped get her into a good paying job.......anyway, this Gallagher is so good I had to have it again!!! :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty and extraordinarily funny!, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Maddest [VHS] (VHS Tape)
In this wildly funny video, comedic genius Gallagher (born 1946 as Leo Anthony Gallagher) looks at women, feet, children, God, and style. That's right, though some people sneer at Gallagher for his Sledge-o-Matic, watermelon smashing routine, that actually makes up a small part of this extraordinarily funny show. All along, he turns his wit on various subjects, showing more perspicacity that a whole roomful of television pundits.

As you can tell, I absolutely love this video. Created from a 1983 live performance, it is very witty and extraordinarily funny, showing Gallagher at the height of his ability. The show is quite good, and even the Sledge-o-Matic bit at the end is handled in a very funny manner. My fourteen-year-old daughter and I just love watching this tape, and we both give it our highest recommendations!

4.0 out of 5 stars sexy, wacky white guy with the STYLE of a black preacherman, April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Maddest [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Gallagher is indeed mad! his comedy is multi-media funky funnyisms. he can get away with stupid s*** just because he has so much STYLE and likeability. he is a big kid who will bounce on sofas, indulge in food fights, play with puppet monsters, rollerskate and anything else that comes to mind. but he has a man's perspective on male/female quirks. he is sexy, cute and full of fun. take him home
