Directed by Alan Clarke and scripted by David Leland, this is an excellent one off play/film about a deliquent 16 year old called Trevor played by Tim Roth who refuses to conform to the laws. He gets in trouble with authority but doesn't heed the warnings until he is finally 'dealt with' by the powers that be. At the end of the film, we see a frightened but not cowed teenager who must face punishment for his crimes. I remember seeing this film when it aired on Channel 4 in the UK in the 1980s. At the time, it had a big impact on me as I was a teenager myself. Down through the years it is still being hailed as a very important piece of work regarding its social commentary and is mentioned in the same breath as Alan Clarke's other play 'Scum'. It also bears striking similarities to Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange' and Shane Meadows' new film 'This Is England'.

The best part of this film is the performance of Tim Roth who showed his talent at a young age in this his first major film. Roth has gone on to excel as a movie star since then. It really is worth watching this. Roth appears in nearly every frame of this 73 minute film and it makes for compelling viewing.

Excellent movie. Although Trevor is way way over the top, I find this story very believable. I've known skins and punks, with better lives, that are/were just as untame as Trevor. Many other skinhead movies portray skinheads with a smile, as they get ready for violence. Giving friends a "high five" (actually or metephorically). Trevor keeps that pissed off look on his face. He is truly angry, as was the majority of lower class England. Although he was a racist, this story illustrated the deeper root. Angry, young, and poor.

Great movie! Tim Roths first film appearance and it's a great one. My husband said that he (Tim Roth) strolled into an audition looking for air for his bike's tires and when the people at the audition saw him they loved him for the role and hired him. This is how he got his start. It's a great story and a great movie about a kid with no chances left with the law who just can't get It right, or doesn't care to... I you want to see an older movie about a rebellious little English prick with a chip on his shoulder then you've picked the right movie. Classic.

Tim Roth has been on a higher acting plane,since his official debut
in MAID IN BRITAIN.He is an artist,an acting genius whose life is his work,to the delight of the international film audiences.
" Maid in Britain" is similar to Prime Suspect episode "The Street,"with Steven MacIntosh.I do not want to spoil the film.

If for whatever reason you would want to know what dealing with a skinhead is like, how their minds function, this is your film. Tim Roth completely gets the character, so his fans will love this film; he is a first rate actor and this is one of his first acting gigs. But the deeper point is the insight that he offers into what can only be called a radical politics that is anarchic, sociopathic, and right wing.

If you have ever looked into the eyes of someone who hates you because of your race and is prepared to hurt or kill you for it, you will recognize the core message of this film. If that is something you want to understand, then this is your film in spades. As a half-Chinese, I have seen this in its rawest form as a youth in the US. It is real, ugly, and unredeemable, unreachable. I have never seen it portrayed in such a raw manner, at least in regards to skinheads.

Yes this movie stars a young actor that now plays the main doctor on the hit show "Lie to Me". If you want to see this actor as a violent skin head out to destroy society, this movie will surely make you laugh. Also appealing to the National Socialists out there.

amazon recommended this movie based on other purchases and obviously they had me pegged wrong. this movie was not what i thought it was going to be. if you like movies about racist youth without any moral, this is your movie; if not, don't waste your time. there wasn't even a good story line or any action in it. i expected it to have something good to it because tim roth was in it, but it left us with nothing. would not recommend this movie.

I can't believe I wasted my money on this movie. It was not interesting at all, but rather boring.
'This is England' and 'Romper Stomper' are better movies. I suggest you watch those, instead of wasting time on this movie.

I thought this movie was very ordinary,i kept waiting for something to happen, maybe it's me or Tim Roth's acting !!!

This movie is f**king stupid!! Please don't waste your time and money! If you want to watch a good skinhead movie watch romper stomper!! And for the record skinheads are not all racist!!
