4.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly Description of After-Life Accomodations and Romance, February 11, 2001
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This Compelling movie brings much Understanding to the concept of "Life After Death" and gives us a few clues about how to get-around when we do not have bodies, anymore! This movie also shows that you do not just Quit doing all of the things you love...you simply have a Lot More Time to do them! If you have ever questioned dogmatic beliefs or had "Lucid" dreams that foretold an After-Life that contradicts what you have been led to believe...this movie is for you. If you are a person who seeks Knowledge about Spirituality, this movie is a great addition to your personal collection of images, data and theories. Or....if you are just a Romantic person, who enjoys a Great Love Story! Get your box of tissues ready and delve into this Highly Under-rated film. I would give it 5 stars, if it were a little faster-paced...but, that's just my Opinion. Most women Love this film (and guys should give it a try)! "Made in Heaven" is difficult to find, where I live, so I wonder how many people know about this Great Movie. There are many surprising scenes in this film and I believe it should be considered a Classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars "There's more to the picture than meets the eye!", April 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this movie for the first time on TV by 'accident' and was quite intrigued by the whole thing. But, like most naive viewers, only saw what appeared on the surface. Being a life-long Neil Young fan, I was very interested in his part in it, but at that time had no idea the title song "We've Never Danced" was one of his. The second time I saw it on TV I taped it, commercials and all, and it began to grow on me. Shortly after, I had a terrible tragedy in my own life and the 'Heaven' aspect took deeper roots. A few years later at my daughter's wedding, I was completely surprised when she chose "We've Never Danced" for the father/daughter dance selection. It was on that 'ballroom floor' that the whole meaning began to sink in. Through my tears I realized that there were no 'accidents' and what was 'made in Heaven' was not the love story, it was the song. From the first note played upon the arrival in Heaven to the final composition when the band is formed, it is the song that slowly takes center stage, enters your heart, and leaves you forever enchanted. This movie is a must-see for all those who desire learning to read between the lines, only to find out that things are not always what they appear to be. "If you don't really know where you want to go, it makes no difference which road you choose." Thank-you Alan Rudolph, and thanks again Neil. Buy it now...it could change your whole outlook!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film got lost, June 4, 2006
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As it happens with some wonderful films, this one got lost in the crowd. Reviews were not favourable and not much noise was made over it. For me, enough to see it! The story line is basic, but beautifully carried. A must see film! On DVD would be better (hint!)

A little tid bit: For those who have seen it and wondered who played the androgynous character of Emmet, it is actually actress Debra Winger (then married to Hutton) who did a cameo and is (purposely) not billed. Look closely and you will see her!

Also, for the Amazon customer who wondered if there was a soundtrack: there was. In the US it was out on LP and Cassette. You may find it abroad on CD. The main theme song "We Never Danced," interpreted by The Motels' Martha Davis, is found on The Motels CD - Anthologyland. Amazon has it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most under-rated sleeper I've seen, March 25, 2007
This little known gem has been successfully ignored for too long. I am hopeful the DVD version will finally become available soon.
As with all good movies, the promotion and casting are never the real reason fo success as much as whether the story and direction can create a psycological tie to the viewer. This one excelled for me in many ways.
The exquisite soundtrack had it all. One of the first to use popular songs from a by-gone era to create a nostalgia, and the haunting "Elmo's" theme that Timothy Hutton develeoped throughout the re-incarnation portion was brought to a head beautifully in the closing scene. I was brought to tears in the reunion ending. It still gives me the chills each time I see it. This Neal Young tune "We Never Danced" was treated wonderfully.
Another fine aspect of this film that is a mystery is the casting of the character "Emmett". I believe it is Debora Winger, but I could be wrong. I assumed the character to be either Micheal the Arc-Angel or God, but certainly not the devil. He (or she?) is definitely in control of Heaven and souls. Iwas also very delighted to see the vignettes by Tom Petty, Neal Young and Ric Ocasek.
I urge everyone to see this when it becomes available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calling all Believers in Fate!, June 13, 2002

When I saw this movie, it was on tv one Saturday afternoon, and it has left an impression years and years later. From the way the characters live in heaven to the lost soul aspect of the main character before he meets his soul mate. Yes, this gives new meaning to the word soul mate. How people can connect and it is for a lifetime. This movie breaths new hope in the thought of heaven, happiness, and finding your true love. This is a movie that will keep you from moving off the couch until the end... Touching, interesting, warm and the kind of feel good movie that blends lives together. if you haven't watched it look out for the hitchhiking scene...incredible irony. Recommend it 100%.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully woven story:love, heaven, earth, rebirth, death, November 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The opening credit of the film "The story you are about to see could be true. You may even know some of the people." sets you up for and helps you ponder the story line of the movie. There are questions which we all ask ourselves and things we all wonder about. Where does inspiration come from? Did you ever notice that when you meet some people you just click? How about all of the seemingly small, insignificant things which have happened in your life. Things that had they not have happened, your live would be drasticaly different? All of those things that struck a chord but only later did we realize the significance. The lyrics of the title song "We've Never Danced" by Neil Young tells the story in itself: "Between heaven and earth, there's a ballroom glow, where couples glide in the evermore.......I hope it's not too late, we were more than friends, I can hardly wait, til we meet again." Some of these questions and mysteries are presented within a beautiful and moving love story. As you'd expect, the answers can't really be put into words, without trivializing them. So all we can do is experience the magic of the story and at the end, know that we have experienced part of the connection between heaven and earth. I highly recommend that you seek out this video and experience the magic.

Can you imagine what true love really is? Can you say you have truely loved, or even say you have been loved? Made In Heaven will awaken something insideyou....... Something you may have never felt, or something you lost in time and dulled with age......
If you have loved..... or if you you think its inside of you but doesnt know how to get out, then dont look any farther..... MADE IN HEAVEN will open your heart, your mind and your soul to an experiance like no other and show you the meaning of a SOUL MATE.

When i was in my 20s I saw this at the theater and have been waiting 20+ years for the DVD release... The movie moved me to tears that day and I never was the same again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need to explain to someone what a soul mate is?, May 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was introduced to this movie by a boyfriend when it was first released on video, and loved it so much I couldn't bear to return it to the video store, so payed an exhorbitant price for my copy (for you youngsters, this was before there was amazon.com or a video section in every store). It is a love story that is definitely NOT a "chick flick"... I'll tell you a little secret: most men I have shown this movie to cry harder than the women! This movie is not one you can cook dinner while watching or any activity other than rapt attention, or it is easy to get lost. So much is in the dialogue, but the imagery definitely makes the movie. There are cameos of some very recognizable faces (as well as some that the name is more familiar than the face) that keep even the non-romance-believers entertained. The plays on words and ideas are thought provoking. This movie will stay with you even after just one viewing (but take it from me, it gets better each and every time)!

5.0 out of 5 stars There is a DVD available.., September 2, 2006
Great Movie. My wife absolutly loves it!!!

If you really want this on DVD, there is a DVD available. I purchased mine through one of those hard to find on DVD movie sites. Basically, they search the world for titles that are released in other countries, but not in the USA and vise-versa.

I baught it about a year and a half ago for my wife as a gift. Payed something like 25.00 for it..

Personally i think that there is no reason for a movie not to be on DVD... but thats another story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made in Heaven - a rare film, November 14, 2004
This review is from: Made in Heaven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This has been possibly my most favourite film, ever since I saw it so many years ago. I had a video copy, but unfortunately lost it and it's been my quest to find another. Sadly it seems that it is unavailable in the UK. This is sad because I think it is a gem of a film. Of course it's a feel good film, but also for the soppy ones of us a tear jerker too. Sad that the UK is missing out, I've searched for years, but no success to get a UK compatible copy.
