Curtis Martin has done an outstanding job of making a case for Faith in God (Scripture) and in sharing his journey to the Catholic Church. His work with College Young Adults has prepared him to write this clear and concise book that every person regardless of their Church involvement or level of belief should read. We are giving "Made for More" to our Adult Children and High School age Grand Children. Also recommending that it be required reading for youth Ministry, RCIA, Baptismal & Marriage Prep in our Parish.... Bob & Ethel Reber

Great book! Nice, short, easy read, but socks you between the eyes! Challenges you to ask yourself "why are we here?" I didn't give it the fifth star because it never delves into practical, real life living of the social gospel. Perhaps volume 2 will address that. I hope so. Love your God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul. Got it. AND ... love your neighbor as yourself. Pretty important that we don't overlook that part.

Curtis Martin does an excellent job in building up a case for Catholicism by posing and answering objections to Jesus, the historicity of the Bible, and the liturgy.

The book is not solely for non-Catholics, though; his chapter "Life in the Kingdom" is an excellent walk through the scriptural foundation of the seven sacraments that Catholics should know as well.

What might be a complaint about this book is, from one perspective, a great strength: it is brief. As someone the agrees with Curtis' answers, I made it through the book in one sitting, impressed by his simple list-objections-and-scratch-them-off approach. Where a thicker book might go unread, Made for More can be read easily.

Each point (for example, why we reject the argument that Jesus never died on the cross) is answered accurately but briefly. If a particular answer isn't sufficiently convincing, that is only a reason to seek additional resources. Other offerings from Ascension Press (and other excellent Catholic presses, like Ignatius) would dig deeper into any particular topic.

Curtis Martin was able to pull ideologies, theology, and excerpts from a lot of the famous theologians and put it together concisely into this little gem. Chapter 1, for example, is all straight out of Lewis, and other subsequent chapters summarize other great thinkers. I loved this book and I buy copies so others can read it (you should too)!

Curtis Martin followed a spiritual journey similar to many outspokenly evangelistic Catholics. He was baptized and raised as a Catholic, but left the faith while he was young. In college he encountered evangelizing Protestants who introduced him to the concept of a personal relationship with Jesus and knowledge of God through Scripture. As he grew in faith, he began to explore the early church fathers and discovered that they believed in a church that had the characteristics of today's Roman Catholic Church. Wanting to follow God completely, he returned to the Catholic Church and has been a prominent teacher, speaker, and author as well as founder of FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students.
In Made for More, Curtis draws on the works of both Protestants and Catholics to present a basic apologetic work that should be accessible to a very broad audience. He helps his readers deal with the most fundamental spiritual questions as to the existence of Jesus and the purpose of our lives.
He begins with Jesus: "Who do you say that I am?" Using the same logic as great writers such as C.S. Lewis, he challenges all notions that Jesus could possibly be anything other than what He claims to be. He either has to be God or He has to be a liar, a lunatic, or just another moral teacher like the Buddha. Curtis shows why the latter three are impossible, leaving us with the logical conclusion: that He is God.
Curtis also covers some of the historical evidence in a fashion similar to the well-known Protestant author Josh McDowell in The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict. He covers the historicity of the resurrection and the validity of the Bible and its transmission, two key issues that underpin our confidence in the teaching handed down by the church.
