I purchased this book while I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I loved it. Mr. McDougall's tips on survival kits are very practical (I now keep several of his mini safety and fire kits in my car, cabin and home.) His instructions for waterproofing leather boots are a snap and work just like he says, 'one treatment will last the life of the boot, or longer'. This book is clear, to the point, well written and a pleasure to read, with projects suitable to a wide range of ages.

very good recommendations for equipment. though it was meant to be a book that outlines projects. i found it surprisingly easy to read through. some of these "do-it-yourself" projects might be a bit much for the novice. but overall very informative. i would recommend this book to anyone in the market for new ideas about wilderness self reliance.
