About the Author

H. L. Hix lives in the mountain west, among objects with little monetary value to others but a lot of spiritual and emotional resonance for him, and also among living beings: five chickens, a dog, and his human partner, Kate Northrop, who, though she is not an object, does "include the universe in her constitution and the laws of her being."

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

"Made Priceless" is great to pick up and read at any point in the day. The fascinating "things" shared are full of personal stories that I found to be compelling. This is the kind of book you can leave out and friends will page through and be intrigued too; in fact, I think it's one of those books that I'll add to my gift-giving list.

Made Priceless edited by H.L. Hix is a collection of short essays about items writers have in their possession that they neither bought nor would they sell because they hold a value not measured by the marketplace. The book pays homage to all that is held dear in today's society from a time long past waiting to be recaptured in memories to places you can revisit, though the light will be slightly off or the wind will blow harder. Hix has culled together a series of short essays that demonstrate the beauty we find in the most mundane things from flags to typewriters to playing cards found on the ground.
