5.0 out of 5 stars love this book
I am a big fan of these Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and this one did not disappoint! Loads of really good old-fashioned recipes but nothing too crazy or wild. Very easy to read and use. There are so many cook books out there today and it feels like most are either too reliant on prepackaged, prepared foods OR they use exotic methods and spices. This is old-fashioned...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok but the title is misleading
This is basically like all the Gooseberry Patch books. The recipes are fine but it wasn't what I was looking for at all. The title makes it sound like the recipes focus on cooking from scratch but instead you have a lot of recipes that call for premade ingredients. The "Fabulous French Bread" recipe starts with a loaf of French Bread. That is not scratch cooking. If...

The title makes it sound like the recipes focus on cooking from scratch but instead you have a lot of recipes that call for premade ingredients. The "Fabulous French Bread" recipe starts with a loaf of French Bread. That is not scratch cooking. If you want a really lovely church supper style cookbook, this one is fine. If you are wanting to cook without canned soup, canned beans, processed cheese spread, and a loaf of french bread from the store, keep looking.

I received one for free a few years back in exchange for having my hush puppie recipe published (it's on page 153). Very easy to make recipes, all from scratch. Perfect for picnics, cookouts or church socials.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection!, March 8, 2011
This review is from: Made from Scratch (Gooseberry Patch) (Plastic Comb)
I received this cookbook as a gift. It quickly became a #1 grab from the shelf!
I find the recipes easy to follow, using items you usually have on hand. I like the 'wipe clean' hard cover and find the coiled binder a plus as the book will easily lay flat when opened.
EVERY recipe I've tried has been absolutely delicious! I have my favorites of course such as the Fresh Tomato Pie on p46 (sounds odd but just try it!) which always brings rave reviews! (You can add some onion and/or asparagus to change it up ccasionally!) Grandma's Date-Nut Bread (p 74) is absolute perfection to say the least and after first trying the Golden Cheddar Biscuits on p 93, you'll remember to make a double batch the next time! You'll definitely want to bake the Angel Rolls on p81. They are exceptionally light and full of flavor and they'll make that company dinner all the more special!
It's been my experience that you just can't go wrong with a Gooseberry Patch cookbook!
