I bid on this on Ebay and was happy to have won, but to my great disappointment, even though the track listing included "dance" and "classic" versions of both "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" and "Sorry I'm A Lady", the classic versions were not the original recordings from the late 70's but remakes. In fact, the entire album (including "Parlez") is new recordings. I surfed on the 'net and learned that after a few more albums, Baccara singers Maria and Mayte split up, found new partners, and each formed new versions of Baccara: "New Baccara" (Maria's group) and just plain "Baccara" (Mayte's). To complicate matters, both groups re-recorded the most popular original Baccara songs on several different new albums, and New Baccara eventually dropped the "New", making three groups with the same name. "Made In Spain" lists all the musicians and back-up singers, but not the names of the two ladies whose faces grace the cover!

The other songs on the CD, sung in English and Spanish, vary. Most of it is Abba-esque Europop with a Spanish flavor. Some songs have good harmonies and crisp arrangements, others are sung in unison and sound like they were recorded with a cheap Yamaha organ, not to mention a synth solo on "Parlez Vous Francais" only fans of Florence Foster Jenkins could appreciate. There's too much sexy moaning, cooing, and heavy breathing that only ingenues like Britney Spears can get away with, and not two ladies who must at least be in their 40's by now. Some of the lyrics, especially when combined with Baccara's heavy accents (even after twenty years of singing the same songs), are unintentionally funny: "Here comes that man again." sounds like "Here comes Batman again."

Does that means I don't like this CD? Heck, no. Nearly all Europop is at least fun to bop along with, and it's nice to hear some of my earliest favorite pop songs, even in the form of remakes. At least the original Baccara spirit has carried over into whatever incarnation is on this CD.
