Book Description

*This is a novelette that introduces you to Madly*

Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madly has loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?

Book 1- Madly
Book 2- Madly & Wolfhardt - a full length novel
Book 3- Madly & the Jackal, Coming May 29, 2012

About Michelle: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I'm convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet December 20, 2011
By Ruth
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is more of a novella and gives us a brief introduction into Madly's life and friends.
It throws you right into the action early on and sets us up nicely for Madly & wolfhardt.
I was a bit concerned prior to reading it as to whether or not the whole Mermaid thing was going to be my cup of tea ..... but I'm in. And at this price you can't really go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!! March 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I picked up this book because I was drawn to the beautiful cover. Well, the words inside were just as good, if not better. I loved the plot, characters, and twists. I gobbled this book up (since it's a novella) in about an hour and went straight for the second book. M. Leighton has just made a new fan and if all of her books are this good, I'll be a fan for life!

5.0 out of 5 stars quick and awesome read July 23, 2012

review is on[...]

I love the supernatural world but I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever read a book about mermaids and M. Leighton has sucked me into this world. This is such a different story line because not only do you have mermaids but M. Leighton puts a very neat twist into the book by using all-time favorite fairy tales.

This is the just a short novella to get your "feet wet" in the life of Madly James, Princess of Atlas. It takes you into this world very quickly. We learn that 8 Lore, which are the evil spirits and also part of the fairy tales have escaped and Atlas has been capture.

Madly, Aiden (her intended husband) and Jersey (her best friend) are currently going school on the dry land. When Madly figures out is going on she heads to the headquarters to figure out what is going on. It is there that she meets up with Jackson, who will now be her bodyguard, and the man that she loves. The problem is that they cannot be together.

On top of that, Madly's main problem is that she is the only that can save Atlas. Plus, there is a traitor. Let's not forget she has to capture the Lore, too!

This was a very quick read! But it leaves you wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet.... September 3, 2012
By Nereid
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a short but engaging read into the life of Madly who is one of the Mer people. She goes to school in a town called Slumber with her two best friends and it seems relatively normal. Things change when the "Lore" escape their watery prison and Atlas goes into lock-down cutting her off from her family who have been taken prisoner. Madly must find a a way to track down the prisoners and return them to Altas and save her family. Jackson provides the forbidden love interest because she is a princess and therefore cannot bond with a Sentinel although the attraction is there on both sides. She is betrothed to her best friend but it is more of a brotherly feeling that she holds for him and so she is torn between love and duty. Hard to get a real feel for the characters as it was a quick read but interesting enough and a great introduction to this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best YA Series I've Ever Read! August 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
**SERIES REVIEW**

The 'Madly' series is some of the best mermaid fiction I've ever read. I'm not a huge fan of mermaid fiction, but this series has endeared itself to me. The first book in the series, Madly, is a short novella that introduces the reader to the characters, the world of Atlas and Slumber, and to the back story of the series. Even though the first book is really short, I immediately fell in love with the storyline and the characters. Madly is a fiesty heroine who also happens to be Mer royalty. Her relationship with Jackson is super intense and only gets better as the series develops.

The second and third books in the series were full length novels, which made me excited. The story continues effortlessly from each book into the next, which makes for great flow. The characters grow and gain more depth with each novel, which makes them all the more realistic and easy to root for. As I mentioned, the romance between Madly and Jackson is really steamy. I normally don't care for a ton of romance in young adult fiction because it comes off as corny, but this relationship was spot on for me. The scenes between Madly and Jackson are so well written that my toes were tingling and I had butterflies in my stomach. I rarely get physical reactions from novels, and when I do - I know that it is something really well done.

I really liked how the author explained the back story of the Mer culture and history, as well as the history of Slumber and its inhabitants. She went above and beyond by not just writing about mermaids, but including other interesting beings - such as the Lore and Seers, which I thought added a ton of uniqueness to the series.
