At Last! Goth Rock At It's Finest!,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: For Madmen Only (Audio CD)
This is the finest Goth Rock that is played on community FM radio stations after midnight. The Nephilim and UK Decay have mastered telling dark stories through their rock in Gothic style. The lyrics are understandable and the beat is heavy and loud.
For years now, I found it impossible to find UK Decay at any store or online tunes store. I only had a worn out cassette of UK Decay that I begged a community radio DJ to cut for me. I worn out that tape from repeated listening. Yet through the years, UK Decay developed a fanatical loyal cult following worldwide. And at last they opened up a website and heard the demands of their fans to re release For Madmen Only. And I am so glad that Amazon has put this classic album for sale to the world! By all means, buy this one IMMEDIATELY!

It's so nice looking back at the past,
This review is from: For Madmen Only (Audio CD)
Looking at the very dance-oriented and commodified form contemporary goth has taken post 2000, it's very easy to forget that there was a time 30 years ago when the word "goth" was unheard of and the scene, such as it was, consisted of loosely affiliated post-punk bands who held certain similar ideals as the underlying factor driving their music. A truly interesting time before boundaries and rules formed, a time before every second "goth" band became poor clones of The Sisters of Mercy & Fields of the Nephilim.
UK Decay have been largely forgotten, which is a shame because in this disc we have quite literally, the missing link spanning the punk rock of Sioxusie and the Banshees, the post punk/new romanticism of Adam & the Ants and what would eventually emerge as goth. UK Decay were the godfathers of bands who went on to achieve much bigger things: Southern Death Cult, Sex-Gang Children & Bauhaus and you can clearly hear their legacy in these bands. To ignore UK Decay is to forget the past. Some of these bands took what UK Decay did and did it better. Some of these bands took what UK Decay did, and took it to other places. But, this disc is an absolute must for anyone researching the early goth scene because UK Decay did it first.
