Book Description

Renowned bone detective Bill Brockton and his intrepid assistant, Miranda, are about to get immersed in murder and intrigue in Avignon, France, home of the popes for most of the fourteenth century. But first, in this artful prequel to The Inquisitor's Key, other mischief is afoot in the ancient walled city. Inspector René Descartes of the French National Police is roused from a deep sleep to investigate a break-in at the Petit Palais, Avignon's museum of medieval masterpieces. Descartes's discovery plunges him into an elaborate, art-lined labyrinth: a labyrinth that leads him to a master forger's studio . . . and to a charred corpse. Just as he's finally closing the case, Descartes gets called to an even more bizarre death scene, where his path—and his fate—will collide with those of Brockton and Miranda.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant introduction April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Once again, the team of Jon Jefferson and Dr. Bill Bass have shown their unique talents for detail, character development and engaging believable plot lines in this introduction to the newest character to join forces with Dr. Bill Brockton and his assistant Miranda.
The use of the name of the man considered to be the first modern philosopher for the chief Inspector on the case is no less brilliant. The details into restoration of fine art and the techniques of the most successful forgers once again illustrated this rare brilliance of collaboration.

I cannot wait to read of further adventures of Descartes and Dubois and more so, the interaction between Descartes and Dr. Bill Brockton! How exciting and fun this next read will be. I am eagerly awaiting the publication and arrival of The Inquisitor's Key to see how these characters will interact together.

Bravo, Mr. Jefferson and Dr. Bass, you have done it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent and Mind Boggling...JB Strikes Again!! April 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love intelligent books/series. With this little prequel, Jefferson Bass has shown why they are among the masters. I think in total, this "book" was about 30 pages (?) with the remaining being a sneek peek of their upcoming release of [book:The Inquisitor's Key|11769020]. When I think prequel, I automatically think incidents before the book it is a prequel to...JB decided to be sneaky though and change that format. Basically running parallel to the first part of IK, it took me a bit (and an email to the author asking "WTH?? I am confused") before I got it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating read! April 27, 2012
By Arie K.
Format:Kindle Edition
In this mini prequel to "The Inquisitor's Key", Jon Jefferson and Dr.Bill Bass combine their talents, once again, and it's clearly an amazing short story. From the moment i started reading it, i was intrigued. Rene Descartes, the french chief inspector in the book is on a mission to hunt down a forger that preys on museums in Avignon. The book gives a great deal of insight into art conservation, forgery and paints an exciting picture for the reader. Jefferson Bass is such a unique team, that they are able to keep this book short while keeping the reader engaged, AND still be so detail oriented. The characters are great and the criminal in the book lures you in just as much as Descartes himself. This is an amazing book, (which should come as no surpise if you've read anything written by JB) and i can't wait for more. Madonna and Corpse

I have yet to read a book from these collaborators that leaves me wanting! Engaging from character development, localization, and complexity of the storyline. Read more

I greatly enjoy the Body Farm novels because of their accuracy and realism. It is easy to place myself in the protagonist's situation.

3.0 out of 5 stars And this was written because...?
Was this really necessary to be a prequel to The Inquisitor's Key? Maybe. I didn't like the homosexual basis of the story. Again, was that necessary? Answer. No.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOt what I thought it was
Originally thought this would be a new novel, but alas it was not. It was just a prequel that didn't fully grasp my attention.

Just love this series of books. This was a prequel to "Keys of Avignon". Gave some insite, but since I read "Keys" first I knew most of what was going on. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Why does this say it's a Body Farm book?
Not about the body farm. The first in a series I guess that is about an art detective in France, and in the next book the body farm characters come in?? Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Complex and fascinating story.
I haven't finished this yet - but the dovetailing of history and the present is intriguing. Hope to finish in the next several days.
