Grade 7-10-Readers will learn plenty about the performer's career along with significant details about her childhood and teenage years. Koopmans's connections between the circumstances of Madonna's childhood, such as the need to stand out from her siblings in a large family in order to get attention and her later professional drive and exhibitionist tendencies are a tad simplistic, but they do offer a point of view from which to understand how she has made herself into one of the world's most recognizable celebrities. Unfortunately, the writing is at times awkward and the latter part of the book devolves into a rehash of the star's many achievements. Average-quality, black-and-white photos, including a number from the singer's childhood and of her family, illustrate the book. The author provides comprehensive source notes along with a substantial list of works cited. Despite some flaws, this up-to-date title will be a reasonable choice for libraries needing material on pop-culture personalities.

He is the author of numerous non-fiction titles, including biographies of Bruce Lee, Charles Manson, Pol Pot, and his most recent subject, writer/actor/producer Seth Rogen. He is also a fiction writer with publications in journals including Fiction International, Central Park, The Southern Anthology, Collage & Bricolage, The Journal of Experimental Fiction, Conceptions Southwest, and others.

Andy is also a musician and comedian.
