if this was an Eminem video everyone would be applauding him. However, it's an ok pg-13 video that shows a girl doing things she's not supposed to by our cultures standards. No, I don't advocate violence but I appreciate seeing a girl kick booty instead of being the victim. Great song, interesting video. If you have a problem seeing a video where girls are not sex objects then don't buy it. If you have a problem with men being taken advantage of by a woman, don't buy it. Personally, I love it!

What It Feels Like To Be Banned,

Well, part of the Madonna legacy is her ability to combine her music with stellar and breathtaking videos. No exception to this latest controversy...The reason why this video is banned is not fathomable. We have seen much more violence and sex on MTV, so cut the crap. The video is like a little Guy Ritchie crime craper. Who says a car thief can't be a woman? Who says a woman can't squirt water onto policemen's face? Madonna says you can...and if you look beyond the so-called violence in the video, you'll find the subtle message of the very superior original. The heart-thumping club remix that this DVD is cut to just serves to hype up the action. It is a splendid work of visual, just one complain: there's only one video track here. Why not add another remix video or even have a version cut to the original song...I always thought the origianl version would turn out a great video too....

I just want to correct a previous review's comment. This DVD single (a Region 1 release) only contains the Video & "Above & Beyond" video mix. The Region 2 DVD contains more. Thanks.

Madonna has never disappointed when it comes to controversy. Her video for "What It Feels Like For A Girl" is no exception. It has an energetic dance remix and an intense video to match. Of course, Madonna looks beautiful and the message of female empowerment is evident in the most in-your-face way! The violence isn't strong enough to justify its banning, but what can I say, some people can't handle stuff like this without trying it themselves. I definitely recommend this DVD! It's Madonna, enough said.

This truly is an amazing video. I'm so happy that Madonna decided to release the Paul Oakenfold Mix as the video single release - it's such a great mix...I'm usually not big on DVD singles, but this is a must own for any Madonna fan!

As the years press forward we watch artists grow and then recede, sparking and then abruptly fading, and we become jaded and forget them rather easily. That said, a small percentage defy the few "hits" and then oblivion, fighting that chart-topping mainstream fight. This type of artist stays afloat by modifying themselves, adjusting to the times and experimenting with the new flavors and sonic fashions. They write and rewrite themselves, making sure new audiences note what older audiences have already grown to love. Successfully doing that, playing every formula on the field, and one - at least in mainstream success - goes far. Within defining someone with "staying power," a few names come to mind. Amongst those spoken often, Madonna seems to be firmly rooted. Yes, she's redesigned herself a multitude of times while defining herself as an "artist," sometimes met with love and sometimes with the cancellation of commercials while doing so but each time being noticed. Accordingly, she's spanned decades. And now, adding Guy Richie into the visual mix and letting him shuffle some violent undertones into the fray, she's found yet another niche where she might not have been able to get before. She's located people like myself that weren't really sold on her body of works without that type of appeal. While the video for "What if Feels Like For a Girl" isn't perhaps for anyone and it wasn't - in my opinion - violent enough to be "banned," it did seem to fit just right when I watched it. If you've never seen this and don't think Madonna fits you, then maybe you should try it on anyhow. Technotronic remixes making melody to watch violence by is a NICE thing. It managed to bring a tear of joy to my eye.

What's the Problem?,

I still remember the MTV News update at ten to the hour when Kurt Loder announced that Madonna's video for the song "What it Feels Like for a Girl" off her latest LP, Music, was considered too controversial for MTV to put into rotation. My first thought was "Oh LAWD, what has my girl done now?," flashing back on the videos for "Justify My Love" and "Erotica." When MTV announced they would play it ONCE in deference to the fans who wanted to see it I, like millions, tuned in to see what all the hooplah was about.THIS is controversial? On what planet, and for what reason? Because it offers Madonna's take on the injustice and inherent sexism American society forces its women to confront on a daily basis? Because a woman is taking control in an uncontrollable situation by ending her life because she can no longer stand the hypocrisy of the society in which she lives? If this had been a short film starring some cute indie actress, it would have taken home an Oscar.

This Is A Great Video Madonna Shows Us Again Female Power!,
By
This review is from: Madonna: What It Feels Like for a Girl (DVD)
What It Feels Like For A Girl is from Madonna's Music CD. It is the 3rd single of off her album. It was directed by her husband Guy Ritchie. It was banned on MTV and VH1 due to violence. I really don't understand why I have seen worse videos depicting violence. This is her 3rd banned video. The video starts off with Madonna putting her clothes in a suitcase and then getting into her yellow sports car and going to an old convelescant home to pick up her grandmother. Day turns to night and she is driving around town with her grandmother. A group of guys in a car are checking her out, she winks at them and then she turns around and hits them with full force. She then sees a guy at a ATM machine and uses a stun gun to stun him to steal his money. The way she walks to the machine and puts the stun gun up high up in her arm and getting ready to stun this guy is just great! How she stuns the guy is actually not shown. You just see the guy lieing there passed out. She shoves the money in a waitresses' pocket to help her out. She innocently sips something to drink and drives by 2 cops who are looking at her and points a gun at them and it turns out to be a water pistol which she aims at them and squirts water onto both of their faces. They go after her. She then sees guys playing hockey on the streets and tries to run them over. The music stops for a second and we hear a great sound before she sees another guy in a red car getting gas. She ends up stealing the car and they drive around again during this there are flashbacks of Madonna getting ready before getting into her yellow car in the beginning. She goes through all of her drivers licenses which actually shows her in many different pictures throughout her career. She puts on a suit to protect her from being physically hurt in a car accident and you see her grandmother watching a show that shows cops in cars on TV chasing after the bad guys. Those are the 3 flashbacks. At the end of the video she commits suicide with her grandmother as her car hits a wall and gets completely banged up. The music from this video is not the original version that is found on the Music album it is the Above And Beyond Mix found on her WIFLFAG remix CD. The DVD shows good messages. It shows us how woman are sterotyped in life for not being as smart enough and strong enough emotionally as men. It also shows us Madonna's female power when she gets back at all the men, which I truely loved. The video as it shows really tells us what it really feels like for a girl in our society these days. I highly recommend this video it's very good and really not that violent! Keep up the good work Madonna, your fan since 83!

One Of Madonna's Best Videos-That You'll Never See,
By John (south carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Madonna: What It Feels Like for a Girl (DVD)
Okay, this is nothing new. A Madonna clip gets banned, and then sold for a pretty reasonable price. Everybody's happy. But what if the video isn't as controversial as it has been made out to be? Furthermore, Madonna is no longer vamping in sleazy hotels or dressing up in her best dominatrix gear. This, her third release from Music was banned for violence. What it feels like for a girl is a violent video, but compared to the hundreds of blood and guts on TV today, it's pretty tame. Perhaps it would be more shocking in the 80's or very early 90's, but it's not and nearly everything on MTV's playlist could be considered violent or dangerous in some way. The video does grab attention at the very second. Madonna is dressing, and there are awful bruises all over her body. The song is about the role of women in the world, and one of the most compelling in Madonna's catalog. It's only right that Madonna takes out her aggression on men in the video. She, along with her grandmother, go on a crime spree in a yellow camaro. She is armed with a stun gun and (gasp!) a water gun, nearly runs over teens, robs, all ending with a fiery crash. It's one of her best and definitely not the pro-violence message she has been accused of. Madonna is an artist, and her videos are fantasies. For three decades, that's been hard for people to understand.

This is what it feels like,

This review is from: Madonna: What It Feels Like for a Girl (DVD)
I just purchased this video and I don't see why it was banned. This is such an awesome video by Guy and Madonna. The stuff that does make it on Mtv, et al., objectifies women to the point where people don't even see a human being anymore. The average video, from men and women performers conveys the idea that women are there for men and for sex. Madonna takes her video and says, "I don't think so." Guy and Madonna's violent portrayal of "What It Feels Like" reveals an alter ego. Madonna is running around like a secret agent and messing with men who objectify her. It's sheer brilliance and I don't understand people today. Madonna rules!
