Not for the discerning reader., November 18, 1999

This review is from: Madrigals And Mistletoe (Zebra Regency Romance) (Paperback)
Readers of Regency romances are a breed apart. Unusually knowledgeable about their favorite historical epoch, they are "high-sticklers" for accuracy in dress, manners, and, most especially, the terminology that has come to represent the era.
Hayley Ann Solomon's "Madrigals and Mistletoe" suffers from what seems to be the current norm at Zebra/Kensington Books: a total disregard for historical accuracy and writing as leaden as pound cake. Ms. Solomon's approach is a highly formulaic one - she sprinkles in a few easily recognizable Regency terms (some glaringly misused) and settings, adds some stock characters and situations, and Voila! a Regency romance is born. Not quite, as any admirer of Georgette Heyer can attest to.
I read Regencies for enjoyment, not to cringe at every misused word or improbable depiction of the times. I was sorely tried by "Madrigals and Mistletoe."

This is the second Zebra Regency Romance I have read and I enjoyed it so much better than the first.I love historical Romance and I was not dissapointed...even though it was a little tame for my tastes....but I liked It just the same!
