space strategy game with a good deal of adventure-like plot elements mixed in. After the last great war, a small and previously unnoticed planet, Zokbar J, seized the opportunity and pounced on the broken pieces, creating the "Syndicate," which now vies for domination of the galaxy. You defected, and now control Harmony, a large Fitzholium miner, and can manage your planets' resources to build a fleet and defeat the Syndicate.

I am a lover of space strategy games, and Maelstrom was the first to get it right, and be endlessly fun to play. Sins of a Solar Empire is the first to come close to this level of entertainment since, and is fun, but still misses some of the 'creative' elements that made Maelstrom so great. A truly under-represented game if ever there was one!

This game was prompted by the legendary Syd Mead (who is famous for his Blade Runner, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Wing Commander Prophecy credits). Don Bluth Multimedia handled a great deal of the animation in the game - a delight to behold. Game play itself is an interesting mix of advenuturing, space exploration, NPC interaction , espionage and even many storylines with deft branching to other stories!
