This is the recipe for the herbicide I got from the Dirt Doctor's website: [...]

1 gallon of pickling vinegar (10%) I like the 20%, myself--within four to eight hours you can see the weeds turning yellow.
1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid (Biodegradable)
1 ounce of Orange oil. (D-limonene)

Add the soap and orange oil to the gallon vinegar bottle. Close the cap tight and shake it for about 20 seconds.

Add the gallon to a hand pump sprayer and you are good to go.

This product arrived very promptly and was entirely as advertised.
Using 20% acetic acid as an herbicide (regular vinegar isn't strong enough) worked very well for killing weeks in the cracks of my stone patio. It is non-toxic - my dog walked over it after it dried with no problem. It smells for a day or so, then stops. This vendor was the cheapest I found, but with the shipping (understandable since it's gallon jugs of liquid) it isn't cheap. I used 2 gallons on about a 10 x 10 foot patio, and I could use another gallon or so. It's available in stores, but at a MUCH higher price. So all in all, this was a good deal.
Bottom line - a pricey but pretty effective way to kill weeks, and one that doesn't harm the environment, pets or anyone else.

I'm thrilled with the results. I have a poison ivy problem that of course gets worse every year, and I won't use Roundup (ugh). When this was delivered (quickly) I very carefully poured a quart into my hand sprayer Solo 418 1-Liter One-Hand Pressure Sprayer and started spraying. I did two patches, one in the sun and one in the shade. I went out in around four hours and the poison ivy still looked strong, but some of the other plants that got hit were already curling up and dying, so I thought it wasn't working on the ivy. But I was surprised two days later when the poison ivy in the sun was dead, and then even more surprised the next day when the ivy in the shade died. So it did the job. I read that it doesn't get the roots and it may come back, but I'll be ready! Yes, it is expensive, and you have to be very careful using it, but I'm glad to spend more money and not use Roundup.

Tried this product with 2 tbls of dish soap. Killed weed tops within 4 hours. Thistle completely died and degraded within a week without having to pull, dandelions too. We have tried to eliminate thistle with Roundup for years unsuccessfully. Areas we sprayed with roundup, weeds were still alive but withering a week later. Plant that was accidentally sprayed with product was rinsed with bucket of water immediately and no ill effect. Will definitely use again. Did wear gloves and rinsed everything well with water afterwards as it is a strong acid.

So I tested Roundup vs Vinegar. I figured I'd give it a week, but oh snap! The vinegar (20% acidity) did more in a 1.5 days than the Roundup did in a week plus it's safe around the kids & pets.

This vinegar worked to kill the vegetation growing in between the bricks of my patio. I've tried the vinegar you can purchase in the supermarket with little success. When I applied this stronger vinegar as a spot treatment on the weeds, within a few hours I was able to see visible wilting and overnight most of the broadleaf weeds were dead. I'm happy that it's a natural product and I don't have to worry about poisoning the ground. An informational pamphlet on uses of the product was not included and would have been nice. In doing some prior research, I was aware that it must be applied on a sunny day for it to be most effective.

product performed as advertised, although we added one tablespoon of orange oil, and one tablespoon of dish soap. People interested in a safe, effective weed killer for kids, and pets, will be happy with this product.
